Buying New 2011 FE 570 S Enduro

Hello All!

I am excited as all heck about picking up my new 2011 FE 570 S this coming Tuesday, May 15th. Been saving and wanting to buy the "Big Berg" for a long while now.

Been reading today about the fuel pump and "gas boiling" issues with these bikes. Is this something that I will need to constantly worry about, or are these occurances few and far between. Is this only an issue when being used and abused really hard in a "track" environment setting, or can it occur at any time to any one? I would hate to spend this kind of $$$$ on a bike and not be able to ride it care free.

I will be using it 60% as an occasional work commuter and 40% as a trail ride bike at places like Bear Creek and Crow's Canyon in Ohio.

Do I need to ask any specific questions and make sure the dealer performed any service / recall / warranty work?

I do plan on adding an aftermarket slip on exhaust (any recommendations) in the future, an EFI map switch, and the auxiliary 1 gallon fuel tank. Is there anything else that I would need to do that is considered a "must have"?

Any feedback and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I would consider the rear brake disk guard and an aluminum skid plate to replace the plastic thing.

Thanks Ruger!

Picked her up today. Got the (cheaper) rear disk guard, the aluminum skid plate, the carbon fiber exhaust shield as well as the Trail Tech Voyager GPS computer. Going to install all of the above tomorrow. I have got to figure out how to get rid of the "sewing machine" sound. What can be done to the stock muffler to improve sound and flow without adding obnoxious noise? The mousy horn is a complete joke! I ROFL every time I push the button. What all needs to be done to "de-smog" one of these?

It's a US bike right? o2 sensor and secondary air valve (SAS) installed?

Came with stock ECU mapping? Need to change that one to de-restricted map and open up the stock can or put some nice titanium or carbon Akra on it. Or similiar slip-on, but don't get any cheap noname brand. Nothing like raspy mega loud crap noise that gets really annoying quickly. The Akra is pretty loud, but comes with dB insert that quietens it down, but eats tons of mid range and top end imo. I'm getting designed a better insert that won't rob power and at same time is not loud too.

Get the cheapo map switch too so you can experience different ignition timings. Bike has very mild timings and might feel gutless without the map switch on some occasions. I wish I could map the timings myself to get even more snap and raw power for top end.

Rob,

Do a search. There is an exhaust can modification thread here that is quite informative, but I'll give you the bottom line here. I didn't like the sewing machine sound either, and many others complained of the exhaust retaining a great deal of heat and making the bike difficult to start. I and others have made a number of modifications to the internal components of the factory muffler, most with only marginal benefits. You can make it sound a little better, you can make it so it won't cook your right thigh quite as bad, but my sense is that few are happy with a modified factory muffler and only then when they've all but gutted it.

I approached it by systematically making a series of incremental modifications to the internals. Let me tell you, the conservative approach is a waste of time. A complete waste of time. In fact I would say that the factory muffler is a waste of time. I solved the problem by replacing it with an FMF 4.1 muffler, and it's the best $300 I've ever spent on a motorcycle. Do that and get the performance map flashed to the ECU by your dealer (it'll run lean if you don't), and you will go a long way toward returning that machine to the way the design engineers intended it to run.

Read the exhaust can modification thread and you'll get the whole story.

Considering all of the fuel injector clogging issues, I immediately installed the Can Am inline fuel filter (links on here detail that install, or look up the Husaberg Australian off road tem's web site). I also installed the DJH Cam Chain Tensioner, the stock tensioner is junk and will fail, the only question is when. Dirt tricks also sells a tensioner, I can make you a deal on a slightly used one of those. There was nothing wrong with the Dirt Tricks unit, I just like the DJH with the manual adjustment better. The exhaust can is a major issue, get it opened up any way you can. Enjoy! I've hit the 69 hour mark and all is well with my bike and no real issues here.

I did make some exhaust can modifications according to a thread I read on here. I drilled 10 holes in the "heavy washer", cut 1/4" off of the smaller diameter inner pipe and removed the screen from the canister end cap. Now it sounds MUCH better. No more sewing machine!

Haven't seen any explicit threads showing how to remove the smog stuff (SAS ?) I don't think that it has an O2 sensor. It is a USA 2011 model.

I do notice that it takes a long time to start and cranks quite a long time before it finally does start, as well as "pops" when you get of the throttle and decelerate. I would like to get the header and mid pipe ceramic coated as well as install a FMF Factory Ti 4.1 slip on for it, but my dealer won't re-flash my ECU. I don't know how to proceed.

I asked the dealer to flash the ECU with the performance map, and was told that the (USA) ECU is "locked" and can't be re-flashed. I say BULL$HIT! Is there another way or place that can re-flash the ECU, or must it be done at / by a dealer? Must it be done by a Husaberg dealer, or can any KTM dealer do it?

I just installed a Trail Tech ECU map switch yesterday along with a Voyager computer, while I performed the 1 hour oil and filter change. Haven't used the switch to change the maps yet to see what / if there was any difference.

So far I really like the bike, though it hasn't seen any dirt, yet. If I could only resolve the hard to start, popping on decelleration and installing a FMF 4.1 slip on (with re-flashing) then I am sure that I would really love the bike. :bounce3:

I know highfive sent his ecu out to Taskey's to be re-flashed. I assume any dealer with the equipment would be glad to. Mine was done before I picked it up at TJ's in Austin, TX. Prob cost you $50-$75 plus shipping.

I have a 2011 570 S Enduro and your dealer flat *** lied to you! I had Fritz Kadlek @ Gunnison Motorsports
flash the closed course competition map into my "green mapped" bike. That, along with the removal
of the vacuum line from the right side cylinder head to the "smog" canister and your bike will run a whole lot
better!

Barshoe has it right. A dealer that tells you that they CAN'T flash the performance map to your ECU is a liar unless they're in California and have to deal with the draconian California Air Resources Board (CARB). My dealer in Alabama even SUGGESTED it!

I just called Fritz and UPS'd to his shop he did it and shipped it back.
Whole thing took a week. I sent him $50 I think. Forget silly dealers like that,
go to a pro like Fritz.

I think the dealer can flash any other map in it without hassle, but the User Setting Tool map which unlocks the ECU.

My bike was 3 days in the dealer waiting to get some sort of activation code from KTM directly, so they could flash the UST map in. Now I can finally tune my ECU how I want and make some datalogging or monitor different sensors if needed.

Still wish I could map the ignition timings differently, but maybe in the future If I buy a real standalone ECU...
