Hi,
Just looking at buying an 05 FE550 in really good condition with 5000km’s on it. Just wanting to know if there is anything in particular I should be looking for with these bikes? Also, what is part availability and supply like these days?
Thanks in advance.

I have a 2005 FE550 that I'm just rebuilding right now. Pretty much all the parts are available for the engine (KTM parts), except the cylinder sleeves. We had to install a used one. So you could get stuck there if you have to rebuild the engine.

Other than that, I have been able to find all bearings, etc for regular maintenance. I've found the bike to be very reliable riding singletrack for several years here in the PNW.

I also recommend you get the Orangeberg weephole kit from John Prior in Australia. The kit upgrades the oil seal/bearing on the countershaft.

I have the cylinder sleeves known as 'Liners' in stock.

just recently one or two iterms have stopped. there's no doubt about it. some gears, the piston for the new liners have stooped but the pistons for a used liner are still OK at double the price though.

they stopped the radiator shrouds and the seat tail piece three years ago. But you are looking at sticking close to guys like me that find and make alternatives. Unfortunately, Tony for some reason didn't ask me or want to use me.

cheers

Taffy
