Been talking to Taffy about this problem - can't understand where the thrust/shear required to break this came from.......
No galling on the end feed at in the LH case. No dramatic failure of main brg.
I am seeing messages about loose nut and this is a possibility but the gear and key are still tight.
Could it have been overtightened and casing replaced onlt to fail later in operation?
Whatever happened it sickened the owner enough that the bike fell in price to where I could afford it. Just hope the repair is not TOO costly.

Hi Scott,

I would say the cause of that is that the crank nut has been tightened to tight, if you havn't got the correct tool to lock the gears alot of people use the old air ratchet and can over do it.
I know when I rebuilt my engine the previous owner had used an air ratchet and this had fatigued the threads and the first thread and a half sheared off but there was enough left to secure the nut to the correct torque.

Regards

Sparks.
