whats the best, 450 501 etc what the best mods i see that lineaweaver is on here and that you build some good engine any tips from all of you welcome.

hello mate

the danger of a question such as yours is that someone will look at the day you joined, the type of question and think that you joined in 5 minutes and asked the question in 1!

i'm not like that, i prefer to beleive that you read the owners doc thoroughly, that you read the 'tuning; engine rebuild, modifications, updates; and the 'carburation' section right through....

so if you need even more help than the doc - fire away!

you know it makes sense!

yep Taffy is right.......A thread like that could go to the moon and back on paper..

isn't this what forums are abound asking what ever one else is doing, my question is simple what do the other forum members think is the best engine for enduro use and what are the best mods to help.

now the lads here know i love my films. and there is a great quote that i WANT to use but i won't. maybe they can guess it?

cool hand luke has just been re-captured and is laying prone when the trilby headed warden bends forth and says: now, wh.. .. .... .... .., . ....... .. ...........!

sir! i think you misunderstood us all. we will help you, but try to use the search feature and the doc first and then we can cut out the first three rounds of crud. we enjoy the detail but not if it's old ground. it keeps us all fresh. how about showing some respect for the old guy at the back?

regards

Taffy

"Now what we have here is a failure to communicate" Classic!!
How about some info.. Type of terrain?? Size and ability of rider?? Year and model of the bike available for the project? If you really want a good enduro bike, just buy an 07 FE450, add armor and a checkmate and your done.

Hey Log,

Not that I endorse reckless behavior, but, it only becomes a special test when you need to go and get the second six pack.

swsupermoto,

I am a newish member here as well, the guys will give you heaps of support in time, there is a wealth of knowledge here! For an enduro/trail machine, look at the basics, and be assured that the Bergs are very competent machines.

look at getting the suspension right, protect the engine with a real bash plate, not some plastic one, and pay attention to the radiator hoses, they are vulnerable, get some good tyres that match your terrain, and stock up on the highest quality oil you can afford, and oil and air filters, then keep up the maintainence she requires.

the more specific issues will come to you along the way.

look enough of the politics :roll

the 450 will suit the enduro challenges

watch you dont flip it though .

stock standard motor - '' set up suspension '' .

Hi swsupermoto. It would seem by your nickname that you are into more motard ? That may make a difference to what is the best engine as I recall from one post (maybe Lineaweaver) that there is a theory about big bores on road type surfaces. Also the 550 (maybe 05 ??) had some bearing tolerance issues which seem to be addressed with the 07. Hard to say which is best engine overall. Need to know more about your particular needs/desires before you can get a less general response. As Taffy suggested you can go to the doc's and read about particular problems for a particular year/engine size.

uh oh.... you might have a fight on your hands with BOSS over that one  he actually makes a very stout plastic one that seemingly does a very good job of protecting the water pump and lower hose. it was actually on the berg in the 24 hour test last year.

Risky1 beat me to the same observation.

Here in Southern Nevada we have enough rocks to satisfy the most demanding masochist and my BOSS skid plate works just fine.

FWIW I vote for the 650. I don't have any real woods around here, but it works great in the tight twisty sand washes and has good road manners too. If it was to be used exclusively off road I would change my vote to the 550.
Except for jetting there are no engine mods needed. Just the normal armor.

Well fellows thank's for catching that,But he probably has not seen our's yet!
Jimmy lewis is the only guy to get a free one,He called me & asked!
Some of you may know why he also got his shipped red label!!

No disrespect intended to BOSS,

I have seen them, and they look fine, but theres notin' like the gleem of fresh 4mm alloy wrapped around your frame rails!

there is a good pic on my gallery of the B7B alloy one I have put on.

and I also shortened my rad hose by 3/4" to tuck it away a bit more, 'cos on my first ride on the berg, I had a stick... no make that log, deflect off the front engine case and go up petween the engine and the hoses and push the smaller hose that goes to the thermostat onto the headers. I was alerted by the smell of smouldering rubber, and only just saved it in time!
