Broken Primary gear

what would cause this to break in half just as the pics shows ....now will i have to retime the motor .ie tdc and line the marks on each gear or does the 1 mark on the cam gear slot in between the 2 on the primary gear.........thanks Paul
 
Yes, you will have to retime. The dot on the cam gear goes between the 2 dots on the primary gear.
I have seen primary gears break/crack before. I dont know if it's a defect or not. I would check the bearing/bushing in the clutch hub for wear. When they wear, the clutch hub can get quite a bit of wobble to it. I suspect this is what breaks alot of starter clutch gears.

I´ve have see this promblem before, if you use rear wheel without damped hub for hard supermotard driving.

I will propose you to mount a anti hopping clutch if you ride SM for save your Engine and better driving skill´s

There was a recall/update bulletin for 2005 models to re-torque the primary gear and check the torque limiter as some were defective (torque limiters). Check with your dealer and have them check your VIN# to see if yours was affected by the recall . You can also go to husaberg.com and check for recalls/updates for your bike.

Perhaps do a search here on this site and get more info on this update. I think the primary nut should be torqued to 90nm so you may want to check the torque value before taking the nut off.
