A few days ago after about a 45 minutes trail ride I noticed my left leg was getting VERY hot. Made it to the parking lot and didn't really notice anything wrong but when I went to start it again I got nothing but spinning and puffing sounds from the airbox if I tried with the throttle open. That's when I guessed it was valve related.
Today I began tearing into it and immediately noticed a chewed up shim sitting in the head that popped off the intake valve. Then I saw the valve was broken. Not exactly sure what could've caused it. I'm pretty slow and tend not to overrev. The dash states 40 hours on the bike but I'm starting to question that. Maybe the lash was just that tight on that valve? I bought it with 22 hours on it 2 years ago (originally wanted to run it for Supermoto) but only just started to ride trails last September.
I'm currently in the process of taking the head and jug off in bike to inspect further. It looks like it'll clear the frame if I pull the cam chain guides out?
I plan on replacing all the valve-related parts for all 4 valves and potentially a rocker. Definitely need a full top end gasket kit and potentially a piston/rings if it looks bad. I started quickly researching it and looks like I have a bit of legwork to do. Does anyone have any recommendations on sourcing everything I might need? Was thinking of going with Kibblewhite Valves kit and one of their pistons if the OEM is cost prohibitive.
Thanks!
