All,

Just thought I'd write a quick blurb about my recent switch from pirrellis to Bridgestone tires.

I had called up Fritz one day to ask what he thought about a good off road tire, as the pirrelli's were no longer cutting it for me. He suggested the Bridgestone 403 front, and 404 rear, in 110/100.

Well the difference is night and day to say the least, to go from a 6 ply HD off road tire to 4 ply MX type tire. The difference was so great, I thought my suspension oil was shot, as I gave them their first test directly after the 6 hours of Glen Helen. The ride was so much more plush it was unreal.

The first place I rode with them was out at Red Mountain, a desert riding area here in So Cal. There's a bit more clay in the sand here so the whoops tend to get a bit more hard faced and steep, and there's lot's of them, miles and miles of them. I could really feel the difference in weight as well.

I was running the bridgestone 4mm thick tubes as well, and running 14psi front and rear. While the front would slide in soft sand, it never broke away like the p's would. And the rear hooked up really good.

The second test was at Glen Helen raceway on a practice day on the National Track. The track conditions were pretty good, the track was moist but not muddy, and some sections were dry and hard pack, not unlike the conditions at the 6 hour.

Again, the difference was unreal, the 403 front really hooked up well, even at extreme angles. And the rear was super tacky. So much so that on the Mt. St. Helen type uphills, if I was in a gear too high and tried to accelerate I could not keep the front end down, I'd have to shift down and spin up the rear a little.

Time will tell how well they work out in the desert, but, for now I'm fully impressed!

Hey Dale the new bridgestones are nice. I have a spare 19" rear wheel that I run a 120/80 brigy 404 on for "hard pack" but it works pretty good in the sand too. favourite front tyre is a bridgy 203

Yes , the 403/404 combo are great. I run them on my CRF450.
Not for the Husaberg 650 though. I tried them. The small amount of asphalt that I do kept me from
using them again because they are unstable on the street.
And the rear felt a little small for what they offer in the 18.

I have used the Bridgestone, Dunlops (two sets) and the Motoz tires. They all have worked great on the 2010 FE570
One of the best improvements I've done for tire feel and hook up has been to install the Neutech TUbliss system
The system works great, you need to follow the direction carefully and when dismounting a worn out tire be careful not to hook the inner tire with tire iron.
The Motoz tires work great and wear much longer than the other brands
I use the TUBliss system front and rear on my YZ250 (IRC tires) and the Husaberg will not go back to tubes
If you run a trials tire, less heat when you run the Nuetech and no snake bit tubes
Check out the Nuetech system

I love my MotoZ tires. I use the Tractionator XCircuit when I go to PA/NY in the rocks and I have used the Terrapactor S/T, Enduro S/T, and the Enduro I/T. I love them all. I have raced for Pirelli and Dunlop in the past. The MotoZ's just outlast everything and hook up like crazy.
I sell tires from Bridgestone, Kenda, IRC, etc and chose the MotoZ's instead.

Hi Dale,

did Fritz tell you whats the advantage of the m404 rear, in 110/100 over the 140/80?

Well yes and no. What he told me was that he has tried all the new tires that have come along, and he keeps returning to the 403/404 combination.

The one thing that I have been told and experience, is that with the larger rear, it tends to make the front push a bit more in corners.

Tire sizing is interesting between the different brands, for example a Mich S-12 130/80 is = to 110/100 in conventional sizing. While the 140/80 Mich S-12 is = to a 120/100 in conventional sizing.

And yes the largest rear that is made for an 18" in the 404 is 110/100. While you can get a 120/80 in a 19".

Well since some others have mentioned their preferences here compared to the Bridgies, I will also.
On my FE650 I use the Pirelli Scorpion Pro. IMHO it is the best off road DOT tire . Great hook up everywhere
and I can hit an occasional high speed tarmac sprint with good confidence if I wish. Stable tire everywhere.
Unfortunately for he rear 404 I think they should make a bigger 18. I have the 120/80/19 on my CRF and even though the 110/100 18 hooks up well and wears good my 650 wants the extreem hook up of te IRC M5B in either
the 130 or 120 width. It's not DOT though.
We'll leave it at that
