Brake Pad Wear

Fitted new rear brake pads last week and took the bike to the track on Sunday for 3 hrs.
When checking the bike over before going out again last night, I noticed the rear pads were worn down again TO THE METAL - no pad material left!
I wasn't riding around all day with my foot on the brake, has anyone got any ideas why this could be happening?
Has anyone experienced this type of problem before?
The track I was riding was very sandy, I don't know if sand could have got trapped in the rear brake mechanism and word down the pads this quickly?
Pad wear looks consistent for both pads.
I'm confused?!?!?
Thanks,

check the eccentric adjuster above the brake pedal , make sure the freeplay is correct .

check that the rear wheel spins freely , it's possible that the piston in the caliper is not returning .

does the brake light stay on ?.

Gave the bike a clean last night and had a VERY quick look at the back brake.
Wheel seems to be spinning freely enough when the bike is up on it's stand - brakes don't appear to be binding.
I'm off on holiday on Sat so don't have time to investigate further at the moment.
I'll have a better look once I get back - if it's the pistons that are sticking is it just a case of stripping the caliper & greasing-up the moving parts?
I'll also try different pads - Can anyone reccommend pads which may last longer?
I only ride MX 'coz they're there's nowhere else to go locally.

remove the caliper and clean it with fresh brake fluid , fit a caliper kit to be safe .

clean the reservoir , add fresh fluid , bleed the system .

I've just found faktor's old thread from when he was experiencing the same problem.
I'll have a closer look when I get back from me hols and keep you posted!

i found the really expensive "race pads" disappear in sand. the sintered ones. they had red backing plates. i am now on a set of cheap and cheerful ones KTM 525 replacement ones from a place down here but can not remember the name. think it was "in chains"! found them on E-bay

Yeah, Scouser.
The pads must've been rubbish!
I've fitted new pads and these seem to be OK.
The worn pads seemed to have a much thiner metal backing-plate, whereas the new ones look much more sustantial.
You live and learn!
