Gday All,

Was reading the 06/07 650 manuel today, it says only use Dot 5.1, on the master resivour it says use only Dot4 ??

So what to use ?

Well I am not really sure if bikes are different (i am pretty sure not).... But on cars its all about the heat. The numerical rating is the degrees the brake fluid will boil.

So 5.1 would be a higher rating and a 4.5 is a smaller rating (ie---- 5.1 = 300 degrees where 4 is like 250 degrees)

I never use my breaks much, (they dont get hot at all) when on trails so I use the smaller (cheaper) one...

I might be missing or incorrect about this but thats how I understand it.

My BMW used to call for a higher rating (dot4 or 5).... I used smaller (dot 3) and that was my track car brakes got super hot and I never had fluid boil or air trapping...

Thanks guys, yea I know its a temp related issue, just worried that their might be an additive that was unable to e used in the berg, 5 is a nono.

Awesome, yea same here, im not much of a brake man, on bike or in car, was taught as a youngster in the 70s, do not use brakes except unless very needed, that way, you know they will always be there for you.

Hi

I would go to a good DOT 4, I don't think there is a need for anything more.

But before you make decision please read this
