Brake failure

My rear brake has stopped working. The bike has been standing for about two weeks, the brake fluid was a bit low and the brake was pretty bad.

But when I tested it the day after the brake did not work at all. I have tried to bleed it, with pretty much air coming out but the brake still not work??

Any suggestions?

you prolly have a big bubble in the hose where it rises by the shock. take the rear caliper loose from the wheel and the swingarm clips, raise it so that it is uphill all the way from the master cylinder. put a screwdriver between the pads and bleed it in this position and you will get the air out.

Thank you ned, I will try this.

Is it common that they loose some brake fluid or do I have a leak?

not common. look for a wet spot. but, if your level was very low and your pads nearly worn out, you could have got air in the line.

It turned out there was PLENTY of air in the hoses. A great way to get all the air out was to put a hose on the bleed screw and the put the reservoir in your mouth and blow until there is only oil coming out in the hose atached to the bleed screw.

It also looks like I have a leak at the downside of the brake cylinder. I noticed there are piston repair kit to buy, but I can't see how I can repair it? The brake cylinder is a molded piece and there is no way to get the piston out??

Hi grillbritt
Let me see if I understand - You put a reservoir full of brake fluid in your mouth ??? What were you thinking ???
Get the piston out with compressed air. Put a rag in front of it or you'll launch it across the garage.
Look for any deep scoring or any other sort of damage before you go buying anything.

Hi Coastie, I did not put the entire reservoir in my mouth! Just the top :) Worked great anyway...

I will try the compressed air as soon as possible.

Thanks
