Hello from Canada!! eh.

Thanks for the welcome.

Two bergs have just come across my desk in the last 24 hours and I need some quick help.

2011 FS570 Supermoto with 5400km and 73 hours for roughly 5500 CAD.
From a dealer, meaning I could put a deposit on it and ride it out in the spring, giving me the opportunity to sell current bike and a bunch of parts, or take a hit with the trade in value. Keep in mind this bike looks mint and very clean. I'm just worried about the longevity of the motor, and not knowing what those 5000km were like.

or

2010 FE570 Stock 400km and 15 hours. $6000 Private sale, and I don't really have the bills to pay for it just yet.

I need/want to commute with it, but most of my weekend rides are in the dirt currently

Love to hear what you folks think. I'm leaning towards option #1 right now, but it's an unknown what the condition of the engine really is.

The engine has proven to be very reliable. There are members with north of 20k miles on their engines.

You need to figure out how the bike is mostly used, road or dirt. It is much easier to put 17" rims/tires on a FE and go have fun on the streets. Putting dirt wheels on the FS is not possible with the front brake. Even then, the suspension is far too stiff for real dirt fun. The rear shock is near impossible to get without paying thru the nose. My buddy has a FS and I an FE. When he hits the dirt, he puts on dirt forks/brake/wheels/gearing/chain and makes do with the rear shock valving.
When I hit the street, I either just ride it stock, or put on a set of marchesini 17s/gearing/chain. I use the stock size front rotor, and that seems enough for my 160lbs and novice riding.

Here in the states, the 2011 has different forks, and full lighting/blinkers for street registration.

When looking at the FS on the showroom floor, the brake mount was another one if my biggest concerns. I was skeptical of being able to just swap a wheels set out due to the location of the calliper.

It has been confirmed by others that putting in a 21" wheel onto a FS, the spokes will hit the inside of the caliper. This is before even trying to fit a 320mm rotor. It is a no go, unless you want to be the first to shave the caliper, or respace the wheel.

There are 17" knobbies you can throw on your street wheels. I've used them on a yamaha in the rear, worked fine enough. wide rims will get dented badly in rocky riding.

unless you want to be the first to shave the caliper

*cough*
