Boring a warped liner

I was wondering if it was possible to bore out a warped liner. would it cause it to warp easier because the wall thickness would'nt be the same. I'm just trying to figure out if my old liner would be a good candidate for a big bore kit. It is warped by 0.211mm on the top and 0.533mm on the bottom.

The liner on this model is plated and cannot be rebored unless the plating is removed, rebored and then redone afterward,a fairly expensive job and the results would not justify the expence IMO.Finding a O.S. piston may not be easy.
The liner is thin enough stock and possibly too thin after a rebore.
The 'out of round" numbers you quote are quite excessive.Keep in mind that even gripping the liner in your hands will show movement on the bore guage so if you are checking it while supported in a vice you will not get a correct reading.
If your cylinder liner is worn or scored you have great support at CV Tech in Thetford Mines for the nickelsil replate..

check the cases for distortion as well or a new liner will just get squashed when you put the engine together

what about making up a steel sleeve say 6mm thick to clamp over the OD of the liner to suport the alloy and then correct the warping in a press, if you get it close enough it should be OK to replate, bit time consuming though.

Earlier this year I bought an 08 450 with around 25 hours on the clock. The short of the story is that it blew up in the first hour. During the rebuild that Suttos of Sydney paid for part, I discovered the liner was scratched. I took it to AAURUM Plaiting here in Brisbane to have it honed and replated.

Basically he was in the process of having some new machines installed at the time so it took nearly 2 months to do the job. The biggest issue he had was after it was plated and he tried to hone it to size, it would warp and end up out of shape. After he learnt the new machinery and worked out how to hold it he was able to get it done to a very fine tolerance. He said it took him 5 or 6 attempts, each time required the plating to be stripped.

The end job has been very good, with the engine now having 10 hours running time. The only small issue I was concerned about in the first 5 hours was blowing blue smoke when it was started after sitting for more than a day. That has now stopped al together.

All up the job cost me $240 AUS.

I'm sending my crank to cvtech. I used to have my 2 strokes done by them. how would I check the cases for distortion. I heard that with no water seals you can slip the liner in and out of the cases. and if you can't your cases are distorted. Is there a more acurate way of checking the cases without the uses of a cmm machine. When I called cvtech for my crank I inquired about replating cylinders, they said it was 210$ for nicacil.i'm assuming for that price that would include boring of the cylinder.

bushmechanic that's a great Idea. you think heating of the steel die and cooling of the liner would be enough to reduce warpage. when I get my new liner I will take mesurements of the O.D.
