Last night I tried adjusting the tension of the chain. What happened was that the fooking bolt sheared. It's the one on the back of the swinging arm.

It's approx 10mm or 3/8" but I'm not sure. Does anyone know which diameter it is?? Or which treads are on it?

I'm thinking of welding a nut on the ramains and try again.

Anyone else experienced this?

Hi, vegard....
One of your posts indicate you have an '04 fs450.
#1 - Does it have an adjuster on both sides?? Can you use the one on the unbroken side as a reference?
#2 - Did you try checking the parts manual in the www.husaberg.se former downloads section? Info - parts #, size, threads - is on page 41 of the '04 parts manual!!!

Yes, I've got the other one as a reference. I was trying my luck before going the hard way, with measuring etc :)
I could use the nut as a guide as well. I just hoped someone knew it off-hand :)

Thanks anyway!

twisted nuts

i think it should be 10 mm ill have a look tomorow 04 501 and let you know first thing i did was take them out and put copperslip on them hpe it helps

regards steve

Guarantee it will be metric. 3/8" sounds like something that would come from the other side of the ocean! :) Pretty sure mine are M8.

Oh, and it's a 04 btw.

The bolt is 10mm 1,25 pitch.

And, it's stainless. Stainless bolt and aluminium swinging arm. Are they morons at KTM?? :)

First of all, nothing sticks like stainless in aluminium, secondly it's brittle like hell.

I'll try to weld a nut on it...

Nope. Welding nuts on didn't help. I had to take the swing arm off, and put it in a CNC machine. I did however get the two bolts out. I'll get some pictures of them. I have now helicoils in there, which should work much better than the rubbish stainless/aluminium from the factory.

But, is this something that should be claimed from the dealer/manufacturer? I mean, the bike is seven months ole, and had been use for seven hours. I cannot be blamed for this...

tensioner adjusters

comment: with every new bike or new purchase, i remove axle stops and clean threads then replace along with anti-sieze on the threads such as Never-sieze or Loctite anti-siezing compound.

I would have thought that the factory would do this. I've now smeared everything with copaslip! :)
