boiling fuel

I thought you guys were crazy, talking about "boiling" fuel, that was until this past Friday! I'm sitting there at the top of this long rocky climb in North Carolina when I could hear it boiling to the point that I was tempted to throw in some pasta! With the cap off, it could be heard from 25 ft away! CV4 was trackside so I bought the thermal blanket from them to put on when I got home. Then the next morning at Brushy the manager for the US Husaberg team, Bart Hayes, arrived and I talked to him about it. He pointed out that I needed to , especially seeing I was running another check valve in the end of the vent hose , that I needed to get rid of the ball in the cap. He has also found that ceramic coating the mid pipe makes the temp drop in half from roughly 800 degrees to 400 degrees. He wasn't a big fan of the blanket. So tonight I did the blanket (seeing I already bought it) and removed the check valve from the gas cap. This weekend coming I have the two day Shane Watts school in WV so I'll see if it did the trick. If not I'll get the midpipe coated.

Geeze, what design flaw. There's no reason why the factory could not protect the fuel tank from exhaust heat.

Tell me, were you able to install the blanket without going to the trouble of removing the tank from the bike?

At $50, I think the ceramic coating is a good solution. Just one ride on it so far, and it's still cool out here, so too early to tell if it's the final solution.

I glass wrapped my pipe and heat proofed the tank which eliminated the problem for me. I didn't buy a bespoke blanket, just bought a sheet of the foil backed GRP matt on Ebay (cheap), cut to size and stuck on.

Just search Ebay for 'exhaust heat shield'. It's available from a few sellers. Got mine from a UK seller. You don't say where you are but it should be readily available worldwide.

There were 2 different dealerships that told me when I bought my 2 2011 FS 570's that it was a fuel pump issue on the 2011's. KTM part's.com in WV(Appalachian off road) and HMC in Cato Wis. both told me to replace the stock pump with the model Exact fit PN # 1100-00072 form CA-cycleworks.com ,and to also heat tape the bottom of the tank & recommended wrapping the exhaust ,and using a "fuel sock" that goes in the filler neck ,and pre-filters the fuel ,and said to use only the in-line filters to prevent over working either type of pump used...Also the stock pump would fail because of heat and overclocking itself running period ,so i bought one for both 2011's ,and both said no issue's with earlier FS/FE's
