Blown fuse?

Yesterday I was checking my front light to get it set up properly (it was shining in the air instead of on the ground)
When I turned my headlight down i heard a cracky sound and then my light's just went out.
I checked the lamp itself but that just works when i put 12v on it..
Now nothing electrical works any more (elec starter etc)

I think i blew up a fuse but where can i find the Fuse's? (i am not a real electrician genius)
Are the 2 blue things in my starter relay the only fuse's my bike has?
Should I replace them or do you have any other tips for me?

Thanks!

Hi ElSnorro

Yes this is where the fuses are located 10 Amp should be fine.

Thanks for you answer, how can I see if the fuses which are in the system are blow/broken?

RE: Re: Blown fuse?

If you don't have a voltmeter to check for an open you can connect one end of the fuse to the battery (+) and the other end to a 12 volt light that is grounded to the battery (-). If the light comes on it is good. Otherwise just replace the fuses!

Ah ok, thanks.
I think a have a multimeter somewhere so it should be an easy test.

You should be able to see if the fuse wire inside the fuse has a gap in it where it has blown. If not it is still possible for them to fail, but not that likely.

I have checked both my fuses, and 1 was indeed blown. Will replace it tonight and see if it fires up! :)

I just had a similar experience. Toward the end of a ride yesterday my lights and E start all stopped working (but the bike kept running). After a short time the lights came on again (while riding) then went out again. I stopped and checked the fuses (I have two 15A) but they look OK. I wiggled all the wires but no change.

It was dark and I just put it in the shed but I need to fix it so I wonder if anyone has any suggestions.

Loose battery cable IMHO...It has happened to me.

Hey Steve, I've had both the positive and negative terminals come loose(at different times). Those lead nuts don't seem to hold very well.

Aaron.

Thanks Guys. I did check them (in the dark) but I'll look again. I like easy fixes and it does sound likely.

Squirt a little silicone caulk under the nuts once the cables are tight, helps keep things together

I replaced my fuse yesterday and my light works again and my e-starter works like a charm!

Well the battery connections all checked ok. Battery has juice. Fuse is OK. Still no power anywhere.

Any other suggestions?

loz - With the lights switched on, try wriggling the wiring up to the headstock where it gets flexed by the steering. If the lights flash there probably would be a power wire broken inside the loom.
