Blowing Fuse 4 on Start up - fe570

Hi
So i have pretty much pulled half my bike apart looking for a bare wire or something that would be causing a short. Basically what is happening is each time i hit the start button it will blow fuse #4. From what i have read in the manual fuse number 4 is for the speedo, blinker, horn, brake light and radiator fan. Pretty much all of them are on a switch Except the speedo so i first thought it would be the speedo as it only blows as soon as i hit the start button. I unplugged the speedo but still the fuse still blew. I checked all the others even though i would expect the fuse to blow as soon as i hit the switch to activate them. So im pretty much out of ideas on what it could be.
Cheers
Matt

Have you checked the bare cables below the Speedo ? Just had mine apart and it looks like the bracket could cause future problems there.
Also do u have the repair manual as it gives u the electrical drawings which would make it easier to trace the fault.

Matt, check the wires under the tank carefully for a short - I had a friend deal with a similar problem before he found the cure. Good luck, and please let us know how you end up fixing it.

Hi
When you push the start button you are connecting the negative side of the starter relay coil to ground. The starter relay is right next to the fuses and their wiring would share the same loom. It's possible that the wire coming from fuse 4 and the wire going to start button from the start relay may have shorted together somewhere under the seat or in the wiring loom. Remove fuse 4 and check the resistance between the wire on the load side of the fuse and the negative terminal of the relay. It would be a good idea to disconnect (at the relay) the start relay coil negative wire that goes to the start button so that you do not get any false reading through other parts of the wiring. A low reading would indicate a problem between the two wires.
Hope this helps.
cheers.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I think I may have made some slight progress on finding the problem. I went out and bought a multimeter and started testing for continuity on a few suspect places. First problem I encountered was the purple and black wires coming from where the cev switch plugs into the frame. Followed those wire along to and they ended up coming to a empty plug. After looking at the wiring diagrame it looks like the plug is meant for the rear blinkers. Which led me to my next problem, the previous owner had run wires up and from the rear blinkers and spliced them into the front blinker wires. Not really sure whether this is a problem or not but I think I may just go back to how the rear blinkers are meant to be wired and see if that helps.

Hey Matt, did you ever find the problem? I am working with my friend (another Matt) on his 2009 FE570 who is having the exact same problem; hit the starter and fuse 4 blows. We have a service manual and the bike all tore to pieces right now. Hoping for a reply! Thanks!
