hi guys, just a quicky, have just re jetted fs650 sm back to standard, k51 on clip 3, dr272, mj 190 pj45 choke jet 55? she running mega hot with the ps set to 1.5 turns??? also is the choke jet only for the choke start or is it involved in the running set up? and is it too big perhaps a 45? 2002 dellorto

Choke jet is only for the choke circuit. Off the top of my head you jetting looks to be OK.
Vacuum leak anywere, split intake boot?

hi there, i run a 35 pilot jet but with the pilot screw set to about 3/4 of a turn...... if its too rich it just wont start hot.
you say shes running hot but is she actually running well?

hi guys sorry to quiz and run earlier, its running hot, revving high, tried to compensate with by laying off the ps against the idle but it will then bog down on the throttle snap test.it kicks on 2 hot or cold which was nice for this weather (damp and cold) and theres definately no damage or leakage!! running hot revving high...........sounds like a meat loaf ballad!!!

do we think that it could be sorted by altering the needle height? would it rev out like this as a result of being far too rich as yours was plumbbob? i'm only adjusting the ps a tiny bit at a time so it may just need a lot more tweeking against the idle speed????

When was the last time you looked at or replaced the needle jet? They tend to wear and cause rich conditions as well as hang the needle.

also worth checking the side of the slide where the idle screw pushes agianst it to make sure its not holding it up.
even when mine was running a bit rich it would tickover ok.
good luck ; )

full set of jets all replaced, slide is a sweet fit, brand new needle and cleaned the bugger out! even managed to get a bit of carb cleaner in the eye!!! stingy!!! i'll percevere, thanks for your tips guys.

Sounds weak to me.

What was the condition before you re jetted? Running well? What jets and needle?

If you are describing a high idle speed the problem must be on the pilot air end of things as the throttle is closed right? So the jets not blocked but could it be a blocked gallery in the carb body. Tried blowing them all out with compressed air?

Could your ignition timing be out? Too advanced?

More questions than answers. Sorry

as berger mentioned, you need to check the needle JET as well as the needle you replaced. the hole gets eggshaped.

give me a call. have you got the standard cam in there?

you have to get the ignition timing right. check for the headgasket bubbling in the coolant. you need a 45 choke jet and a 33/35/38PJ. a well set up carb with new bits only needs a 40 choke jet.

Taffy

standard cam new needle jet, i have replaced every part in the carb, only thing that could have affected i think is when i took the bell mouth off, the ring with the two allen key studs, it had an o ring of sorts commpressed into a machined groove, this was not fitted correctly and over lapped, i cut in down to fit correctly ensuring that the join was resealed with engineering sealant, also away from any appetures, and let it go off then re fitted, a neat job by all accounts, so am very sure this is not the problem, it was a flush fit so i dont think that there is any air leakage!!! sorry to be pissy pants about this but am a bit miffed by it!!!! only had the bike since summer and have been systematically replacing all parts affected by wear, this was meant to be the last job on the road to wheelie heaven!!!

keep perseveering (crap spelling!), it'll all come good soon and you'll be in mono wheel heaven. Just try and avoid solvent (carb cleaner) abuse............. it could be worse you could have a normal bike not a Berg!
