Ok, new iridium plug, fitted hi/lo switch, bike strted 1st kick yesterday.
Drove 4 hours to race meeting, no start, me and my ol man kicking **** out of it for 45 mins, it tries to start then dies, eventually it fired up buy had to tease throttle, you know like when a 2 stroke is flooded?. One thin my dad notised, when i was revving in the holding grid !/4 throttle then off, you know psycing up, litl yellow flames popping out of zorst.
Came in, never went back out, kicking **** out of it for 2 hours, it wants to go, but just seems so boggy, soon as you apply throttle, it dies.
Does this sound like carb? It cant be spark, stator ok, new plug, could be ht lead or plug cap i suppose.
How quick can these carbs get ******* up? Was only cleaned like 40 mins ride ago.
Any ideas guys?

Oh s##t Pete. As you know, mines been playing up for ages. Running then stopping / not starting when cold - then not starting when hot etc etc. Saturday after doing the carb & new ix plug, it fired but wouldnt start. Checked the spark, intermittant and then nothing. Had the stator off then on again, and power was back on - then off again - it could be the stator beginningto degrade even though it sounds like a fuel or timing thing.

Anyway - good luck.

This is what Husabergs use to do, drive us mad but we all keep coming back for more.
My electric starter still won't work after trying nearly everything, but the bike kick starts fine.
Not a problem until the kickstart fell off when I was trail riding today!!
Still love that 550 engine though.

whato pete

prett sure your stator has gone west mate.

do you remember i couldn't get a spark out of it down here and it was a pig to start?

the reason that it stalls when winding the throttle is because more electrical stregth is needed when you open the throttle. so yours failed - thus the stalling.

stator 80% sure.

regards

Taffy

Pete, Check those stator values ! I too have been through the bad stator blues. My mate Mike got a 2000 fe501e after I got mine. after some good riding he started having problems, did the carb changed the coil, changed the gas in the tank. All the while i was preaching the stator. Finally he had enough, i came over with my multi meter, and bingo in 5 mins. I pronounced "stator dead" we scored a sparks rewind from Dan @ Motoxotica here in the states. Installed it and bike started second kick, ever since then it starts immediately off the button hot or cold. He swears it feels like a new bike. Check with Taff he might have a sparks unit in hand.

I use to have a 02 fx 470 the iridium plug was a great one way spark plug. I have lots of photo's sent to me by my ridding buddy of me changing plugs. It would run on the cheap plug I'd have in my pack. Do iridium plug not spark weak SEM and the standard plugs just get weaker spark? I sold the 470 new owner said the sparks rewound SEM died 2hr after I sold it....I upgraded to a 06 best bike I have ridden. I still wear a pack of tools and parts now I just never use them.
