black box recall

I just got a new cdi black box in the mail from husaberg for my 2004 FS650E super motard. The note asked me to plug it in to my bike and send the old one back in the post pack provided. when I rang my local dealer they had no idea why they are replacing them. My feeling is it has a new mapping and the bike runs better through the rev range. However this could be psychological. Dose any one know any thing about it ? :?:

Yes Taffy, but I hat to put mine under the fuel tank behind the radiator because of the centre auxiliary fuel tank.

to be a little more accurate dale: the husaberg units have been thoroughly unreliable and despite the chance to use the same as KTM-they didn't.

now i wonder if this replacement part is the same as the 'reliable' KTM unit THIS time :?:

Hi Taffy,
The 04 650 is the only unit for which a recall was implemented therefore a retrofit based simply upon durability is obviously not the case.

As for CDI unit failures on 04 models: I was under the impression that the majority of reported trouble with 04 ignitions was that of the stator.

Sincerely,
Dale

although i'm a little sketchy on some of the details. i know that a lot of 450's have had troubles. these include poor/won't starting, boiling, and ultimately-ignition failure. this has been a continuous problem for some riders. three 450's from one shop, details of which i knew about last november/early december. they went wrong fairly quickly. two of them twice!

my man says that husaberg had the opportunity to go with the same unit as KTM but chose not too. i'm told that it's definately the unit under the seat and not the stator.

didn't know that the recall was for only one model. rather hoped it would be for the lot.

The issue is with the rev limiter on some FS650's or lack there of. Saw a lovely blown up one the other day as a consequence.

is that to save the bottom ends on those beasties? up here in the UK if you remember back to the autumn SM series there were "a lot of little men with hammers inside engines!"

My local dealer told me they were being replaced because the rev limiter on the standard 'black box' was set too high..
