Wow, great site everyone. Been skimming the content quite a bit the past few weeks. Very informative.

I need another motorcycle, and I'd like it to be a Husaberg. However, I'm not sure which years/models fit my constraints. That's where your opinion comes in.

A little background (I'll make it brief). After a 7 year hiatus, I got back into off-road riding last year. Before the time off, I was a mid to upper B level enduro guy and an intermediate motocrosser racing mostly YZ/CR 250s. But, prior to getting back into riding last year, I realized the bike I had the most fun on was an XR 250. So, to ease back into things, I purchased a 1999 KTM Adventure last summer, mostly for trail/desert. Sort of big, but loads of fun. Then I found a 1995 KTM RX/C I couldn't pass up. Smaller and equally fun. And, both of these LC4s are great, off road...but I've got the itch to hit the motocross track again, and I'd like something a bit racier. That's where I think the Husaberg comes in.

Here's the skinny. I'm 6 ft 2 inch, about 190 lbs. I want to hit the motocross track again. I like to ride aggressively, and I want to get back out jumping some good sized doubles and tabletops. If I could either have big horsepower or good suspension/handling, I'd take the good suspension/handling (the two-stroke 250s had plenty of power for me). Mostly, I'd like to show some punk 125 kids what time it is (at least, until they cart me away in the ambulance). On occasion, said Husaberg might need to hit a trail or two when friends are in town. On occasion, it might also see a bit of the desert.

Oh yes, lest I forget, I've budgeted $2k for the bike...no, let's say $2.2k. For the most part, I think I can scrape that together without my wife being any the wiser. In addition, while high maintenance women do scare me away, high maintenance motorcycles do not. I've got decent mechanical aptitude and a good supply of tools.

Now for the questions, assuming the above and that the bike sees 25% off road and 75% moto:

- Knowing the financial constraints, what year models do I need to be looking at? I don't know if this has any monetary implications, but I'd rather NOT have the e-start version.
- What displacement(s) would be best for the intended use?
- What model(s) would be best (e.g. FC, FE, FX)? How does an FE or FX do on the motocross track? Can you just dial up a bit more compression via the adjusters and run the factory shims? Or should I shoot for an FC right out of the gate?
- I'm a big fan of quiet motorcycles. How does a (stock) Husaberg exhaust stack up to any other stock exhaust?

Sorry for the length here, and thanks in advance for the input :D

FC 2002 FC550 for $2200 available here. was raced last year. pm me for the guys contat info if interested

Find a 2000 FC 501 and give them hell. Was the lighest most MX oriented bike Husaberg ever built.

Have to agree with the 501 motor. If you are going to moto it a 01 on could be ok . You would take off the e start and have less to go wrong. If it had updated rockers I think you would be good to go. 501 motor spins up fast like a 500 smoker but has a ton of grunt. harder you ride it the better. any berg will have to have the suspension re valved for serious moto work

But.....a 2000 without the balancer spins up faster yet than an 01 and the reliability plus of no balancer to fail for race use is hard to ignore. My 00 501 I used to own was the fastest Berg I have owned to date. It did have an SPES pipe though.

MAKE THE JUMP BUD YOU'LL NEVER LOOK BACK! I bought a 501fc for my first berg recently and it smokes everything on my local track... awsome.
