Bike Flipped Over - Oil in Carb.

I have a 2001 FC 550. Took a spill this last weekend and the bike flipped completely over causing oil to fill the carb. Has anyone had this happen to them before? How did you go about cleaning the oil out of the bike where oil should'nt be?

Hope I don't have to tear the whole bike apart!

I haven't actually had this happen to me but if it did I would remove the carb and clean it, kick it 20 times or so to get as much oil out of the cylinder as possible, install a new spark plug and give it a whirl.

Search the site and the owners doc, do a breather mod then this won't happen next time you flip.

I have had this happen to me on the trail. Good thing big Tom was there to pull the bike off me ! It was a long way back to the truck and I really didn't want to wait around so........... I thought , how do you clean off oil ? with gasoline. so I put the choke on pulled the decomp lever and kicked it through about 20 odd times. I then shut the gas and choke off kicked through 10 times or so, then went through my start up proceedure. Wa la bike fired up, smoked like hell most of the way back to the truck. Once home took the air filter off on wiped down the air box with a rag, new plug and that was it.

Loosen the nut on the bottom of the carb and let the oil/fuel drain out. Remove the airfilter and wipe out the airbox/frame with a clean rag.
Now might be a good time to change the oil.
Get it started, you may have to kick for awhile. Run it untill the smoke stops.
Make a mental note "do not do that again".

Yeah it happens. No big deal.
Just clean up all the excess in the frame and intake boot, start it up (it'll prolly stall a few times - mine does anyway) and run it thru till the plume of blue smoke stops.
