Best way to remove the shock?

I am trying to remove the shock but I was wondering what the best method was to remove the bottom bolt, knowing that you have to work inside of the swingarm and that you run the risk of losing a nut inside...

An Allen key on one side, a 17mm socket on the other, ok, I can loosen the bolt but I am afraid to screw up. :?

Thanks for the help!

And no, Taffy, I am not going to work on my shock myself, I am sending it to a tuner in Illinois - huh, who could it be?

The bolt should come out in the socket. Then I took a telescoping shop magnet and stuck in on the hex end of the bolt. Then I used something to push on the bolt from the nut side until it was out enough that I could fish it out using the magnet.

Wel I don't have a magnet but I am sure I can find a different tool to do that...

I am more afraid of losing the bolt, actually, I don't see myself removing the swingarm and shaking it to recover the darn bolt. :)

It'll be a good excuse to grease your swingarm bearings!

If I can do this anyone can. The bolt actually does not get away very far, even when it drops off the allen socket, I stuck a fridge magnet to a long screwdriver to retrieve it from inside the swingarm. I took my shock off to replace the battery.

I have removed the bolt, but I am unable to remove the shock from the swingarm. Something inside of the swingarm, that is totally inaccessible, is holding the shock in place on both sides...

Any help would be great!

You may have to leverage the shock against the swingarm. I had to do this the first time I took the shock off of my bike. There's nothing holding the shock onto the swingarm it's just being stubborn. I was going to take the swingarm off and grease the bearings anyway so I took the swingarm and shock off together then I took the shock off of the swingarm.

It seems to be held in place by the balljoint kit, the set of rubber joints that firmly hold the shock at the bottom.

Well, I will try with some help now, because it's hard to remove with one arm and a half.

I used a shallow socket to do the loosening, with the allen driver in place on the other side.

I used the allen driver on a extension(bolt head side) to spin the nut off keeping the socket still so the nut would stay in the socket (pull socket out sloooowly)

Take a pencil  no actually a long skinny driver to push the bolt through keeping pressure to keep the bolt head on the allen driver out it comes

The swing arm needs a bump to free the shock

when putting the shock back on attach the top first and let the wheel swing arm weight act a a lever to bump it back into place

put the bolt back through then using the nut in the socket to HAND TIGHT at first spinning slowly the socket at the end of an extension... remember hand tight, it will take only 2-3 turns at most then it will ht the nylon insert of the nut and require pressure (normal for Nyloc nuts) tighten back up.... do not over tighten the nylock is what stops it from backin out......

Thanks I managed to gently pry the bottom part away with a tire iron.

In regards to this part of the bike, KTM has it simpler, one has to admit.
