looking at replacing the cam chain on my FS650 2004 has a iwis in it. What brands and thought has everyone got? Regina (dcr) Iris (taffy) DiD or iwis?????

I'm not Iris I'm Iwis mate?

I'm Iris rear final drive chains.

Iwis are the best. don't get 3M, regina I always thought were rubbish but I was recently told by a customer that he was impressed by them. DID are good.

the problem you've got is that if you fit a camchain to one of the older engines they start 2/3rds gone on the adjustment. you forget or don't notice this and just put it together. a year later and 2 of the 8 clicks that were left have gone and if only you knew it the chain is lasting really well but that chain looks pretty close to the waterjacket feed! so people say: "oh! that hasn't last long - I'll get another one! what a piece of junk those *** chains are!"

then you put a later blade in a 400 or something and you can't even get the tensioner in the hole because the blade is already under a lot of tension. that owner gets bloody 7 years out of his and says that the chain was "the secret".....yeh sure! :cuss: :cuss:

so there is no real truth out there unless you can find someone hasn't done the DVSK, has owned the bike years, kept a log of the hours and knows what each chain has done!

where's JoeUSA when you need him! :D :D

I have a Fe650 from 2004.

the 2004 tensioner blade seems to lose its curve after some time in the bike you see this when you lay it side by side to a new 2004 tensioner blade. because of this i only had two cliks left on the adjuster. i then put in a 2005 blade and got back to 7 cliks left on the tensioner. the 2005 is a diffent design and hobefully lasts.

I started to notice this because when i replaced the cam chain for the third time I mesured it side by side
to a used chain and there was almost no difference in length

was it you that pointed out to me the upgraded part?

800 36 002 000 is replaced by 820 36 002 000 I believe?

any upgrade on that has probably got '100' as the last three numbers?

regards

Taffy
