Beringer brake setup on 2008 fe450 - questions

Hi everyone,

A local place around here is blowing out some old husaberg parts and they have an amazing deal on the beringer 6pot/rotor/master cyl. Around 500 dollars CAD for everything!

I have a set of KTM supermoto wheels and just recently purchased this EBC rotor and adapter, but now that this deal as come along, it seems to good to pass up!

I have not mounted the EBC stuff, so i have no idea how it feels compared to the stock rotor on the street (slighly scary), but i'm assuming that it'll be a night and day difference.

Several questions... As far as I can tell, the caliper should fit my FE bike without any adapters/etc... correct?

Also another question i have is on the master cyl. as it's not the beringer unit, but a brembo. From the searching i've done, it looks like it's the standard 04 FS setup and the master cyl is from a 640? KTM Duke.

As it stands now, i doubt the master cyl. will fit on my bike w/ the hand guards as the lever is HUGE and i'd definately need some shorty style lever.

Yup, the 6-pot caliper fits without hassle on the FE-fork.

Standard setting for the -04 FS was Beringer 6-pot caliper connected to a KTM Duke master cylinder. Imo not a perfect combination since the MC is a bit big for the caliper which makes the brakes feel a bit woody for my taste. But regardless of my ranting the brakes are really good! (super easy to lift the rear wheel when braking)

It's easy to cut a bit of that aluminium lever to make it fit. I had to do just that when I fitted brakes from a -05 FS to my SM converted -02 FE.

just an update to this, i have the front brake mounted and it's incredible!! can't wait to hit the track and not blow past turn in due to brake fade :)

still need to sort a proper lever, or just hacksaw the last 2 inches off the stock lever, but that's minor.

Also, the stock rotor magnet slipped into the new beringer disc perfectly! Just added a little epoxy to hold it in place, but it was very very easy!

I glued with epoxy the magnet in an eyelet of the Beringer disc.
However, this does not pass 60kmh, must be brought closer the sensor (it is not possible with my Trailtech cable :s )

hmm, my magnet is in the eyelet as well, and a test today to confirm it was reading ok... had my wife in the car so i could gauge speed - but we only went upto 60 kmh as well.

Or at least when she was leading. I hit 110 or so on the way to work during a quick blast. But can you describe what you mean by does not pass 60?

maybe i need to get her to drive faster to confirm it's reading correctly @ higher speeds?

Or maybe it was your cable, like you say... I use the stock cable that seems to thread all the way into the caliper... sounds like I might be ok.

0 to 60km/h is considered normal
60 to ++ km/h 0 was indicates to the counter it does not work (I had Trailtech vapor that is new, I change to the cable to solve the problem)

Just an update to this... had the brakes on for a few months now and the stopping power compared to stock FE is just not comparable :) (As expected).

I do have an issue however... for the first 3-4 weeks the lever reach adjustment was working great. But one day, it just stopped doing anything.

I had an incident, first rainy day since the new brakes were on and i park the bike for the night in my heated garage. next morning, i go to roll it out and the front brake was locked to the rotor. perhaps the rain/wet had caused the pads to 'stick' to the rotor.

without alot of effort i was able to just roll the bike and unstick the brake.

It seems like since that time, the reach adjustment (4 setting dial on lever) doesn't do anything.

anyone have any idea?

thx!

we all have (beringer user) the same problem

the brake disc is cast, so when it is wet, the pads are "welded" to the disc

good to know, thx contiman...

also, i'm very embarrassed to say this, but the lever adjust is perfectly fine... I'm just dumb :)

I assumed it was a 4 position dial, as it has 1-2-3-4 on it.

when i left work today i decided to spin it more and just play/test it. turns out it seems you can go multiple times around the dial while getting different adjustments.

When i was trying it before, i must of just been trying 2-3 position movements and noticed very little to no change.

regardless, i'm now able to adjust to a comfortable position again :)

it's the stock one from the husaberg beringer setup that came on the early model FS bikes (or so i was told). I believe its a the same Brembo 13mm from the Duke II.

this is it: http://makinaparts.com/lang-en/ktm/301- ... 40-en.html
