Hi. Ive been enjoying my newly acquired FS650, 2008 for a few weeks, but have a small problem...the front brake lever is to close to the handlebar.
Its adjusted all the way out, but still its in my way when things get a bit rough.
Do anyone know if I can get a strighter, shorter or more adjustable lever for my pump? The brakes are otherwise brilliant:)
Enclosed is a picture of my pump, witch I belive is original.
Thanks in advance!

As far as I know there are only 2 other bikes that use this lever (58613002000) which is the KTM 450 SMR and KTM 560 SMR both from 2006.

I've been looking for a shorter replacement myself with no success.
Let us know if you find anything!

how much pad material do you have left?

Taffy

Dear Taffy. The amount of pad material has got nothing to do with it. Hydraulic systems are self-adjusting. There is no air in the system, the lever is bone hard. The problem is there is not enough space between the handlebar and the lever. One solution is to modify the adjuster system, to extend the range, another is to swop lever for a strighter, shorter one. Thats what Im looking for.
Ultimately Ill have to swop the whole pump (to Brembo...?)

Hi OldMan. Thanks, but are you sure this is the right part number? Googling it, show this part has the adjuster pointing to the left....my adjuster is pointing upwards (the parts manual FS650 2008, has "your" lever pictured, but is called 58613002100??) Are these levers interchangeable?

where in your opening statement did you say that the lever was rock hard?

Apparently the 58613002000 was used from 2005-2007 and the 58613002100 looks like a refresh of the previous one, used in 2008 models.

Can't really confirm if they are interchangeable but from the manuals I'd say so. Let me know if you need some pictures, I own a 2007 model.

if you have an "accident" without bark busters and drop the handlebar into the ground the lever can bend away from the bar nicely

they should just break but ... must be tough

That's different than the one on my 2005, I had an issue with mine, lots of throw..then a solid hard grab, but too close to my ring and pinky finger.

Turns out that the pistons were retracting un/equally...so the first part of the lever travel was pushing the disc over with the ouside pistons (4pot beringer)...only then would it squeeze the disc as it's 'posed to.

Then on release, the disc was pushing the outside pistons back in..

I was able to make and place a wooden wedge between the caliper and the disc in order to get the inner pistons to come out where they need to be. The disc has no lateral movement now, and brakes engage right away, far away from the bar..

Before that, I pulled the caliper, and pumped the ouside pistons way out and cleaned them with alcohol, then pushed them back in and did the inner pistons.

You can feel with a finger on the pad/disc when squeezing the lever...to determine if that is part of the problem..

Do you have a brembo master cylinder? I think mine is an aeronal/beringer model.

Hi. Thanks Idle, but I do not have problems with my brake, as you describe.
I need the lever further away from the handlebar grip.
My master pump is marked "FTE" and I was hoping to get hold of a more adjustable, shorter ore strighter lever. Tx Silverfx
