OUTSTANDING JOB BILL!!!!!!!!!!!!

For all of you that did not get in on this smokin deal :p

Bendberg, Any product you come up with in the future count me in :D

I must have missed this...

What kind of cover are we talking about and what it is supposed "to do" ?? Any pics maybe??

Jocke_D, the covers purpose in life, is to keep your elbow out of your filter while working on your bike, to keep foreign material out of your carb when your filter is off, and makes washing your bike a little less of a hassel, no more plastic bag over the filter, but I still recommend a rag in the carb(better safe than sorry).

Bill:

I haven't received my cover yet but from Bob's description it sounds like a work of art.

A few other items that are sorely needed are a nice aluminum kickstand similar to the Pro Moto Billet one and a underseat battery box in two sizes. One for the stock YTZ7S and one for a bit larger YTZ10S. I hogged out the battery area on my wifes YFZ 450 and installed the YTZ10S. It made a huge difference and has never run down.

That was also my conclusion from looking at the pics. It sounds like a good idea to keep water out of the air inlet when washing.

Husabutt-> Look at the K-T-cough-cough-M power parts. They have a plastic battery holder that will fit like a charm under the seat. Just a little bit of persuation with a heat gun does the trick. Really cheap also :D

Hey Eric,

What is the difference with the bigger battery? More CCAs?

Sorry if we are getting OT but if we have some good machinists among us, maybe we should think about different parts to make and if the quantity is there, the price would go down.

Bendberg, thanks for your efforts!

Frog, you are right on a couple of points here. There is some awesome talent that frequents the UHE, and if the resource was tapped we would have an abundance of neat goodies for our rides. And if we buy in quantity the price will most definitely go down!

Bendberg,

I must have missed your post for the cover.

If you still have any available I'll take 2.

Looks awesome!

I subscribe to the theory that if a little is good then more is better and even more is the best :)

For what its worth I have run down a 7S and then after sitting for a period of time it was so discharged that it would not recover even with an Optimate III charger.

But on my wife's quad I modified it to accept a 10s and after leaving the key on and going completely dead it was recovered with the Optimate.

Not very scientific but if a under the seat battery box is made it might as well fit the 10s.

This way 01-03 owners can run two batteries in series to achieve 24 volt starting and 04 and up owners can increase capacity and CCA. On the 450 its not an issue but some 550 and 650 owners still report that the manual decompression lever must be held in slightly to aid in spinning the motor. The 550 and 650 (04 up) also use the larger CBR600 starter. Guess what battery is stock on a CBR600. Yep its the YTZ10S.

You know what, the YTZ12S has a whopping 210 CCA's but does have some heft to the tune of 8.1 lbs. But what if we....................... :)

Jocke:

I have looked at all the KTM Power Parts that are on the KTM USA website and the only plastic battery box I found was the one that comes with a Electric start kit for the SX450/525. It does not appear to be a under the seat type. Can you provide a little more info such as what bike it fits or possibly a part #?

Thanks,
Eric

Some good info on the 2 different size/ style battery boxes available
KTM Battery Box details

Note they have the lug on the sides for later design (04 on ) starter relays.

Great link Ausberg!

Well it looks like the optional KTM large battery box allows the use of a YTX5L or even a YTZ7S which is the stock Berg battery. Both batteries are nearly the same size. Its almost amazing that KTM can use the teeny tina YTXL4 to start their bikes.

Using the KTM optional battery box may be a good solution to move your stock Berg battery under the seat or for a second stock battery.

Using the large battery box and a YTZ7S would certainly be a substantial upgrade for KTM owners.

Husabut - Like he said 8)

Great link Ausberg.

I persuaded the battery box with a heat gun for a minute or two, after that it worked fine. I use a batter from a local generic-car-stuff-for-all-brands-shop that only has 3Ah on it but it works fine.
