has anyone tested the old 'camichael bend' bars against this years newer bars? how do they feel? i let two blokes ride the bike about 2 months ago and they couldn't stand the bars at all.

Hi Taff,

I'm still on my Jimmy Buttons with high rise mount. Works for me. We had another suspension workshop at home last weekend. I've described these before, but very briefly I get one of, if not THE pre-emminent suspension tuners in Oz, Fran Pons, down to my place in the bush for 3 days of valving, servicing, setup and some coaching.

One of the guys on a 525 was very sensitive to bar position. His lap times were effected by 1-2 secs in a 40 sec lap by rotating the bars from his optium as little as 10 mm back or forward. It meant his seating position was moving in response and effecting the weighting of the front. Very interesting.

Interestingly, Frank has determined that the 06 PDS shocks on the KTMs don't need revalving. He just re-tapers the needle. His son Trent is a top OZ MXer who due to his suspension setup can now lap faster than the Importer, 'works' team rider, Ryan Marmont, in testing. When swapping bikes, the times are more than reversed though. Not sure yet of the Berg applicability as he hasn't done an 06 yet.

Bottom line, play with bars against the stop watch and have someone assisting who knows what to look for.

Cheers
Steve

Here is another bit of setup trivia that I gleaned from Frank last weekend. The 06 Ohlins fork kit for the 06 R6 Yamahas have a torque spec of 10 nm on the bottom triple clamp. Barely more than finger tight. Frank queried this and had it confirmed by the Ohlins factory. To prove it Frank started out at 20 nm. Riders complained at lack of feedback from front end. Under a veil of secrecy, ie not telling the riders what changes were made, they progressively backed off the torque and nothing else. When torque went from 12 nm to 10 nm the riders were happy as they could then feel the front and lap times came down accordingly. Controlled testing. These are the dealer team bikes currently 2 and 3 in the Oz supersport championship.

Something else to think about.

indeed a very common error lots of riders over torque their lower
triple clamps it don't take much to collapse the fork tube one other
place where this could be a problem is the shock, the spring adjusting
ring /nut only tighten down lightly, the piston will seize in the bore and damage piston sealing rings and shock tube

so long Per

Yep,

Overtightening the bottom triple clamp on USD forks will exert more pressure on the inner tube bush as it passes by creating stiction and hence poor fork action. Torque them to spec, no more, and normally no less.

what about my bar design! :(

moderators chuck these buggers off for going off subject! article 4, sub section 3, paragraph 2 states that...

you lot, you're breaking 'flanders' rules!!!! o diddly dokey

oh and if my notes are correct the '05 model was the first year to get the new bars. Fry come on fella! what they like/how they compare?

just watch it you lot alright........

Taffy,
The bars on the '05 husabergs are the Magura SX bend. Fairly tall, with very little sweep. This is my favorite bar that Magura makes. I installed the factory 20mm bar risers, and along with the tall seat it is a perfect fit for me.

john

how do they compare to the older bars?

taffy

Older 02/03 Bergs had the EX bend Maguras- a lot more sweep, a lot better "woods" bar- a "sit down" bar if you will.

My first mods to my 02 520 with the SX bend Maguras was to replace them with the Berg EX bend ones.....just personal preference.

i found the EX ones to be a pain. i'm broad in the shoulder and the heels of my hands are touching the bars whilst inbetween my thumb and forefinger barely grip the bar. i need a straighter bar.

and if they were right, the first thing i'd do is remove an inch off each end.

typical of UHE nowadays. can anybody help me please? i do believe i do a teeny bit to help others and may possibly just about deserve a bit of help?

Well Taff I have no help for you, but I do so love going off topic you make me laugh my a$$ off! I'm too freakin' lazy to read further, what is a"warning" and why do you have one? can I get one of my own? Will it make me ride faster? "Warning" you are going too fast for the terrain? who is Flanders and why is he after you? Who is John Gault and does he like tall or short bars? (Had to get back on topic don't want Flanders on my a$$)

are these X bars the same as the SX bars that you mentioned?

Taffy

Sorry Taffy, didn't see your last question. The Magura X-Line bars cover all their "Pro Taper" type bars. They have several different bends. The ones in the eBay ad are the EX bend, which are really swept back. Keep looking for the SX bend, since you prefer a straigher bar.

He's a character in Ann Rand's book Atlas Shrugged. The question used to be graffitied all over Phoenix,AZ. I'll buy you that beer someday.

Later :D :D :D :D :D

OK kids where else in the universe of M/C boards will you EVER see a reference to Ann Rand?!?! ONLY HERE my precious......Next someone will drop the "Fountainhead" bomb.........(anyone up for a little "Song of the Sausage Creature"?) 8O

Taffy, I have not tried the Ricky bends as they have usually been very low bends with a unique sweep that reminds me of the way people used to run there bars in the late seventies and early eighties. While this might work for the highly talented moto-midgets, but for the plus size riders we need taller bends. I replaced my stock 02 maguras with the pro taper CR high, but much to my suprise, when I put the bars next to each other on the work bench, they have a very simmilar bend and sweep! Once on the bike I couldn't tell the difference in bar shape, but the tapers absorb shock better, and do not give arm pump. Hope this helps, as you have helped me often!

No, same brand but incorrect bend.

At the end of the listing they specify they are the "EX" bend- Not the "SX" bend as you wish.

Anybody who can supply Maguras should not have an issue sourcing either bend.
