Bar height - tall bloke

I've had my bike out for a couple of rides with mates now and it struck me how much they stand where I sit. It then occurred to me that the reason I sit is because I'm too bloody tall for my 650 and end up hunched to be able to use the bars. Issue: I have a Scotts steering damper on my bike. It does appear to have a telescopic 'pin' (? where it is braced to the frame) but I have no idea if they can actually be extended. I am around 6' 5" and feel like maybe 2" would be what I need. The bloke at the bike shop advised me there are ' under bar' mounts for the damper that raise them approximately an inch but they're like $250. Not really the cheap solution I was after. Thoguht?

Im not familiar with the scotts damper, i run a damper on top of my bars. Im guessing you can still raise your bars regardless of your damper? Its just a case of mounts, surely? Im not as tall as you, im only 6'1" and my old 550 had bar raisers on it when i bought it which i thought would suit me. I crashed it and broke the raisers and then found i was much more comfortable without them. It all comes down to your personal style and set up. Maybe your style is more relaxed than your riding buddies or perhaps they are over doing it? If it feels right, do it!

six foot four. way too cramped on the berg so i did what i do to all my bikes, cut a hunk of alloy plate to push the bars up and forward and inch, then bars with the highest bend possible and the highest tensile strength bolts possible to stitch it all together.

lower pegs were the next option but didn't need them in this case.

Not as tall as you guys but at 6.1 and all arm's and legs I agree hoosie570, get your bars forward and up, I run a GPR set up under bar and got a pin made by a local machine shop that did the trick really well, go stainless if you can. It's pretty straight forward on the GPR set up....solid machined bar with a double flat on the end to go into the damper unit arm.

I ride a 550 which is awsome...so a 650 must be even better....enjoy

Good luck with getting it sorted

Cheers
