balancer drive shaft

Hi guys, i'm just rebuilding my 03 550 and am unsure about the axial positioning of the balancer drive shaft. it seems to go as far in as you press if until the gear fouls the case, where is it supposed to run? this would surely affect the cam sprocket alignment too. Any help much appreciated as always. Thanks Jared

I noticed exactly the same issue on my 03 650. Mine did not touch but was very, very, very close. If yours is actually fouling the case and previously was not, I would be investigating bearing condition if you have refitted old unit or miking up replacement bearing to verify correct width if a new unit. If the intermediate shaft has been replaced check its dimensions as well
We all make mistakes, bearing companies and parts manafacturers are run by humans after all. Good Luck

coopers

AUSBERG,
Would a mistake be like 6 Coopers on the way back from Keith without any breaky? Hows your head feeling?

thanks, she's built up now so i guess we'll see! i think it'll be just fine. Fingers crossed and all that. Jared
