I had a Swede write to me two years ago about the balancer bearing. He'd broken one up and got it out. He sent me these photos (see below).

have any of you done this?
Do you know the Swede?

I need to get the dimension of the circlip groove in the bearing. that is all I need? Anyone smashed one open? what was your technique?

Cheers

Taffy

Counter balancer

I may have a new counter balancer for the 2001-2002 upgrade to the two bearing assembly, never used. I had the crank rebalanced to 70% in 2004 so never used this upgrade kit from Husaberg.

I did a rebuild on my 07 650sm last September and my Husaberg mechanic who did the work told me about the balancer situation, that hasn't been available etc and even when it was ,the cost was not insignificant.

Luckily he had the older to double bearing one so I scooped that for my bike but he asked me if he can keep the old one (07)
because he was trying the same thing to open them up and service it. I happily gave it to him in hopes that he would find a solution .

Last time I checked with him he said something about the original construction of the assembly been heat and cold bonded from the factory, and what a pain in the *** it was.

But he got one opened up I think , don't know how but the other part of concern was bearing availability and compatability in that size and from what brand and what application. Because the oe doesn't exist in the generic bearing stores.

Hope we have luck on your end Taffy .

That summed up the problem perfectly. I'm in touch with SMT directly this time (just an hour ago) and can only hope we have some luck too. Ask if he can give me the circlip groove both the width and the depth please?

I will try to contact him Taffy , but I don't expect an immediate response because here there is a 2 week break for Easter celebrations.

If you have any luck with the bearing side of things make a post
so we know that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

In addition I think there is a known German parts bloke who has some counterbalancers ,but I don't know if they are serviced, or an older stock.

Cheers.

I was set up like a fool by SMT the original bearing manufacfturer. Miss Fujiwara said $2,500 for 35 so I agreed to it and just as I went to pay she wrote back and said; you did see that that was the price for EACH BEARING!

my eyes saw what they wanted to see!

Nothing at the moment.

Is absurd.
My opinion is that that bearing is specially made not to be replaced. There is no gentle way to replace the bearing. The only way is to remove the cage, the balls, the inner ring, and then in a lathe and turn from one side to the intermediate groove.
