Baja 1000

We have now finalised our Team:
Riders: Don Hatton, Nick Caldwell, Paul Gallagher, Marc Ebdrup

Baja has been a logistics lesson,we have done rallys all over the world, transported trucks, bikes, and, people from Canada to all parts of the world this all pales compared to Baja support, we have close to 70 people and four support vehicles looking after 1 bike that will be raced for 24 hours.Preparing for the Baja makes the Dakar prep feel like a holiday.
The bike leaves for Baja on November 7th and all the parts have not yet arrived, most critical of these would be our suspension, although it is due Monday.

Most of our other parts have arrived, we have designed our own oil cooling system and remote oil filter mounting we are using the oil cooler off of my Dakar bike, just not enough time to wait for a new element. We have gained aprox .5 litre more oil capacity with the mods.

Engine is back together and should be very fast and reliable.

The lighting arrived with out mounting hardware, we have since solved that.

Would be great to have the bike finished by Tuesday or Wednesday to allow us some time for testing while we are still have access to our shop.

Tomorrow we test how the lights are going to affect handling, we have mounted them on my FE 450 just to get an idea how they will feel.

One thing that is very apparent from this build is how well built these bikes are constructed.

If there is time after testing I will post how the bike rides. In the interim feel free to stop by the shop and check out the build.

Don, you MUST post up some pics before you ship the bike off and keep up posted after the race!!!

Good luck Don. I am looking forward meeting you down there. We are attempting to run the same race , just on a little smaller scale. Our chase crew consist of 3 drivers and 2 vehicles. Should be fun though.

I don't know Don, but I know a little about how this whole Baja thing came together for a number of the riders on the team and all I can say is WOW. Anyone willling to go through what he has to see this come off is a stand up guy in my books.

Good Luck Guys

We are very proud to announce that we have successfully completed the gruelling Ensenada to La Paz Baja 1000, totalling 1700 kms, the difficult point to point race has only been run 18 times in the past 43 years.
The Husaberg FE 570 was the best motorcycle I have ever ridden, it really showed its stuff in the deep sand and Whoops of the Baja Desert.
Even with Nick stopping for 45 minutes to assist a downed rider we were still able to finish 5th in our class (30 pro), our support team did an incredible job of getting to us and making sure we could keep moving.
We have applied to Score to have our time returned and if successful we should move up one or two spots in the standings.
In addition to racing the FE 570 we pre-rode the route on FE390 and FE 450 s the bikes worked perfectly the pre ride bikes were box stock all we did was open the crate and ride them, it was amazing to me that the stock bikes handled so well in these tough conditions.
I have posted a couple of photos in separate posts as they are two big to attach. I will post more once we return from Mexico.
