bad running

hey guys,
just purchased new 05 fe450e and must say that i am very impressed,
exept for one thing.
since first ride ive noticed that at about 1/4 throttle the motor coughs and misifires, i cant sit on a constant road speed because this 1/4 throttle is all i need other wise i have to accelerate,
if i accelerate hard through all the gears nothing happens, but if i ride slow it does it ,,,

any ideas?

Hi, nice bike BTW.

I believe it's caused by lean factory jetting, others will chime in or you can use the search function. I'm sure you'll find lots of info.
Also, look to the left and view "The Doc"
Just grab a Guinness first.

yeah i though maybe the float level but that would tend to have a lean topend ,,,,wouldnt a lean pilot jet cause this form closed to 3/4 throttle before main jet takes over?

the pilot jet is not 'active' at 3/4 throttle. i suggest you study a book regarding carburation.

Look in your owners manual on page 59. Standard as delievered jetting is:

178 main
OBDVT needle
38 pilot
2nd from the top needle position

Change to following to the closed corse settings and it should run much better:

Same main
OBDVR needle
40 pilot
6th from the top needle position.

My 05 Fe450 had the changes made before I took delievery and it carburates perfectly
