Australia ride?

I will be visiting my wife's family in Australia for most of the month of August, coming from the USA. I will be on the Sunshine coast the week of Aug-11-18, then in the Cairns area 19-25, and then is SA out near Orroroo for 25-3rd Sep.
I would love the opportunity to go for a ride while there, so if any Aussie members want to put something toghether just let me know. I would need a bike and gear to borrow, or I will hire out a DRZ if necessary. I am a 42yr old 'A' level vet rider, but would be happy on a TTR225 if that is what it takes to go for a ride.

I would love a ride in the Glasshouse mountains area. I have spent quite a bit of time there over the years, and have seen dirty bikes being hauled down the highway, so I know there must be something good there. I have ridden in SA a bit, but mostly chasing sheep on my brother-in-laws station. Never been to Cairns, but if I were a betting man, I'd say there are some opportunities there as well?

On the flip side, we've some pretty fantastic riding opportunities where I live here in Oregon and would be more than happy to participate in an exchange program, should the opportunity arise.

Hey mate I don't have a spare bike but if you manage to track something down I would be more than happy to ride with you. I know the sunny coast fairly well. Touch base just before you leave and we may work something out.

hi mate, im Near Cairns, i also dont have a spare bike, but if you can get one, ill show you some wicked riding spots we have here.

Thanks fellas! I will see what I can scrounge up for a bike and some riding gear. I beleive there is a place in Noosa that rents DRZ's, not so sure about gear though. Never been to Carins, so not sure what is available up that way.

Hey BRN2RDE,

I'll get hold of popup and see if we can organise a ride down through Kenilworth and Imbil, which aren't too far from the sunny coast. Awesome riding through the mountains and forests. Might need an overnight stay to get a well proper ride in. I'll talk to popup and PM you with details. May be able to organise a bike n gear too.

Cheers,

Wal

G/day mate. If you want a couple of days down the bottom end of SA. Naracoorte is where I am. Can take you on a good beach ride. or through some nice sandy pine tracks out to a little pub in the middle of nowhere.
Keep in touch. PM me if you like. 27/28 th august is the national and state title enduro/ sprint round in SA at Callington. About 2 hrs from where you will be

Wow, this is excelent fellas. I will have to see which opportunity sorts itself out best. As this is a family trip, I will have only one shot at this. Kenilworth sound pretty good. Wife's family is from Nambour, so I am somewhat familiar with the area and have spent a bit of time in the hinterland. South Australia probably will not work out. Once we get to the station north of Orroroo, we generally stay put. Cairns, I am not familiar with, but would probably have the spare time while there...

Thanks again for all the offers. Hopefully we can make something happen at one of the locales mentioned.

Just wanted to give a shout out to Weed and Wal, for organizing a great ride! It was great of you to put a group together and save some room for a wandering Yank to come along. I had a great time enjoying the trails and views. Of course the bench racing at each stop was just as good. Who can forget Wal volunteering to be the crash test dummy for the day, handling all the bloodletting in stride. And Weed... That husaberg of yours looks rather Mad-Max ish. I am sure it will find its way into the apacolypse, and maybe even have a title chararcter role. And who'd a thunk there would be a wandering band of knife wielding midgets, valliantly fought back by by Wal with no thought to self.... well, that's the story I will tell.

Anyways, thanks fellas. I had a blast. If you are ever in the US, I would be glad to show you a bit of what we have for trails in Oregon.

I had a ride on weed's Apocalypse on that sunday it was a revelation of things that were, are, and will be.
Good to see you on the ride Steve.

no probs steve, hey mate...what goes around comes around.maybe you can do the same thing for us one day :|
not that it really matters.as long as we all had a good ride & seen a bit of new country.
if we go for a blast in couple of years time, maybe you could stay for there for a 2dayer & one night, now that you know we are not axe murderers :D .
on the sunday we found a heap of good tracks that we haven't done before.
there is so much forest down that way,it always keeps me interested. :D
its funny ,if we were to do that same loop in autumn after the rain,it would be completely different.
the loose gravel hooks up unbelieveable & the hard pack gets so slippery, its like ice.quite the opposite to the dry.
it really through me for a bit 8O ,thinking i had a flat tyre & riding like some sort of gumby. :D
post some photos up if you want.i think wal has some vid of the bits that he rode, would be interesting to see what he has?
my old berg is a little bit different to the stocko thats for sure.she still packs a punch...maybe too much
hand crafted...just for me :D just follow the dust & smoke screen :D
cheers ..weed..
