Hi guys, looking at a 1 year old 550 berg here in Sydney. Now at the moment i run a BMWHP2, which is great for the open stuff and i push it as hard as i can on tight stuff but at the end of the day 190kg is always 190kg.
The guys i ride with use xr400, dz400, xr650 and another couple of guys join with other jap bikes now and again.
Question is most of my riding its trail which can get rocky and tight, how good is the 550? One thing that concerns me is can larger fuel tanks be bought for them.........a small tank is the achilles heel of the hp2, the other guys have fitted large tanks on their bikes ( you can get so much stuff for the jap bikes ) I hate having the same bikes as other guys and the berg does more for me than the KTM.
Looking at the berg for tight stuff and using the hp2 on more open country...........so how good is the 550e?

1/ NO ONE makes a reasonably priced plastic bigger tank- unless you want to stuff around with the factory underseat one or pay primo dollars for the hand built alloy ones ( AUD $850 + shipping)

2/ The 05 550s have a less than stellar reputation in Australia. Main bearing woes and torque limiter failures being the main issues. There is a thread up now about this.......
