Hi reading a few posts requesting a battery box that sits under the seat. My 470 has had this done, thus meaning a much bigger battery can be used. Look in my gallery for a pic of bike and box. I'll post up another few pics of just the box with diamentions so everyone can, if wanting one can have one made up.

Cheers

Hi Scoot:

A few close up shots would be great. What size battery are you running now? Was there a huge difference going to a big battery? Did you have cables made or use cables from another bike?

Hey Husabutt,
As you know I added a larger battery to my fe501e and it is
wired parallel to the stock battery.I did not notice any difference in the speed at which the started spins. The added 7# didn't seem to bother me at all. What has worked well is the fact that I can crank the bike over longer with out killing the battery. I tend to crash stall and get off my bike more than most the folks I ride with and now I can pull the decomp in hold open the throttle and clean the bike out with out kicking. I can also hook up a blender to the berg and set everyone up with margaritas when we are done riding.

Scoot,
I'd also like to see a few more photos.

I would have to agree that the ability to make a good Margarita (preferably with Corazon Tequila, the best) after a 4-5 hour ride is reason enough to have two batteries at your disposal. If it helps with starting all the better :D .

Great looking bike scoot. I just looooove the blue rims :tongue9:

If I was to move my battery it would be to clean up the area around the the starter/carb. Since 2004 the standard battery have 7Ah instead of the earlier 4Ah which should do the trick for most of us. Also the starter of the 550/650 is stronger from 2004 (don't know why only the 550/650 got the stronger starter but see for yourself in the parts manual).

Just a tip if you're thinking about replacing/moving battery/starter.

Cheers Jocke :) its a bit nicer now as its had new graphics and a blue rear end.

As you said the latter bikes have better starter systems and the stronger cranking battery.
The battery conversion was done by the previous owner. Was thinking of putting the stronger battery in the original place and re-routing the electrics in the vacant battery box? Its just having the time at the moment, what with the shorter days :(

Well i've just put a new battery on, an early fireblade one, i just managed to squeeze it in and now when warm it spins the little blighter up lovely :D So i'm gonna have a beer to celebrate :) :)
