Assembly of water pump

All, I am in discussion with dan from motoxotica, there seems to be a bit of confusion on my part, (go figure) regarding the seal or seals that are used.

On my 98 fe600e there were two seals that prevented the mixing of oil and water,

When i disassembled the water pump and removed the trans cover on my 02 fc470 there was only one seal that was removed. behind it was larger rubber seal and then the bearing.

I cannot see from the manual or parts guide where a second seal would go. the 01-03 parts manual lists only one seal for all models but dan is sure there are two. from what i can tell, there is no way two seals will fit within the trans case.

I want to put this back together right, can anyone verify the number of shaft seals (small, spring loaded rubber) there are on 01-02 models.

Dan would like to know also.

Thanks

only 1, but dan insisted there are two... if it was a pre 2001 he is right... he said he has sold many of these in pairs for these (01-up)years.

i figured it was possible that the factory left one out....

We're talking about the seal for the transmission cover right?

On my '02 FS 650 there was only one "paper" sealing gasket and an
additional O-ring seal for the "water conduit".

It's recommended to use some silicone with the paper seal.

Hope this helps,

If you look for the seal attached to the bearing, there is only 1 (one) seal and, you can't find it on the market. I just look on the top seal shops and they can't supply a seal like that.
The seal is supplied only as a kit (seal + bearing) by the factory with the ref. 350 013-01.

If you look for the seal attached to the water pump propeller, there is also just 1 (one) ref 350 000-01 and you can't fit more than one because the aluminun wall of the case is to thin to support 2 seals. But this one is very common one and you can find it on any normal seal shop.

That be the one i am looking at. seems the consensus so far is there is one shaft seal. good that mean i put it together properly.

to educate me on this issue as i am not a wrench, just a peddler.the 2000 and older models clearly have 2 seals.the 2001,2002,2003 models have one seal and i can see in the manual the 2004 and 2005 models have 2 seals.is this the consensus? :!:

Starting from the water pump impeller:
Coolant seal
Weep cavity (which bleeds into the infamous weep hole)
Aux shaft seal
Aux shaft bearing

Two seals:
The coolant seal and Aux shaft seal.
The Aux shaft seal is proprietary and may only be purchased with the Aux shaft bearing.

Thanks Dale for clarifying! Is this only for 01-03 models? are 04- models different?

Insure that you have properly placed the coolant O-Ring which resides between the main engine case and clutch cover. Trim the cover gasket to clear said O-Ring as required.
