Finally rebuilt the motor. 779 hours 49511 kms. Every bearing in the engine, rod, piston, valves, springs, timing chain, sliders, gear box (got a 60 hour KTM 530 gear box, the same) put a new counter shaft in, Bla bla bla etc..... All genuine parts used.
The whole lot was pretty good, the gearbox was railed though with most of the gears having the hardening taken off. (No cush drive, mostly adv riding and road) will reuse the rod one day, it was great condition. Old Piston had around 680 hours on it

Warning here. I have had the motor down a couple of times for various things, some parts fitted but it is essentially the same engine. Every time I run it from a strip the fine strainer next to the oil drain plug almost instantly blocks (10 minutes running), (I learnt this the hard way a few years ago, rocker seized) I clean it put I back in With the same oil, run it for 20 minutes clean it again still a little gunk on it. During this This full rebuild I was ultra careful cleaning everything during assembly. If I would have kept riding it it would have railed the new top end. Looks almost like lint, paper fibre. For the sake of a few minutes after a rebuild clean the strainer after a few minutes running.

Some series hours being put on these lovely machines.

Miles1 whats your secret to keeping the countershaft from wearing? I'm looking at doing a rebuild on my 2012 570 after 2 Australasian safaris and all the training riding to go with it but only because of the countershaft being badly worn.....

Any idea on approx cost to replace countershaft with labour at a workshop?

Cheers

Run one of these or a cush drive rear wheel from a KTM. I have both. These sprockets are brilliant. Replacement sprockets are cheap.

Splitting the cases and purchasing an output shaft isnt a cheap exercise.

Collecting Parts

Just done another 1000 kms over the past couple of days. 776 hours and 49000 kms now. Still running well, oil comes out relatively clean. Starting to collect parts for a rebuild. Will use genuine parts.

Have any good sources for factory parts? I'm going to begin collecting as well-
