Anyone Tried ****'s Racing revalving?

I'm ready to take the next step in suspension performance.

I've read good reviews about ****'s Racing revalve jobs. But I am curious to hear from someone with first hand experience. ****'s Racing uses an unconventional system. One fork is mostly rebound and one is mostly compression. I know other people have tried and failed with that system. But Dirt Rider loved it when ****'s Racing modified a Husaberg and KTM. Anyone ride one of his revalved bikes?

The other system that I am considering is Novation. Any feedback of first hand experience would be greatly appreciated.

splat;
i have some first hand experience withs dicksracing.
i had my 98 fx600 suspension done by dicks. the stock/unaltered suspension was ok when i got it but it wasnt plush enough and didnt take big hits well. it also had a bad habit of throwing the back up like a wild horse when i hit those hidden rocks. i explained it all to dicks and he gave me a quick explaination [which went right over my head] as to what the 'real' problems were. i got the full blown package for the front and rear. ok, so now the bike is ready for a test ride.
i take off and cut straight thru some nasty virgin desert. i come up to a drop off at a decent speed and prepare for the hard hit and following flying w as i try to regain control. but thats not what happened. not even close. what happened was....nothing. no hit. no ripping. it was like the suspension made the terrain 'invisible'. the forks were plush in the mild stuff but didnt bottom in the really nastyz. i later asked how he did it and he just smiled and said he made some parts to do the job. i dont know what parts or what they do. i do know that its quite dramatic. its like the more you need the suspension, the more its there.
after a ride on my bike, my buddy took his husaberg suspension in too. he didnt go for the full blown package so he saved 200usd. i rode his and i felt the difference. i could give you some specific examples of how it saved my butt if you'd like.
i was there when he was redoing chuck sun's ktm. he had 20 something variables in the computer database. thats not stock. thats extreme.
anyhow, get the full blown package. you'll love it.

Howdy Splat, since Dicks has moved to Northern Calif. I hear more about his suspensions then any others. One of our top local AA Enduro riders had his done by Dicks, 2 people rode his bike and now have ****'s Suspension Work on their bikes. Everybody says it's the best they have ever felt. Now as soon as I get some extra cash I'm sending mine to him.

Go to the KTM talk site to learn more about Novation. It is fairly expensive, but is becoming very popular with KTM riders. I am also considering Novation.

"novation" search in ktmtalk below:

tm enduro,

I saw the Novation Threads at KTMTalk, that is what caused my interest in Novation.

I haven't really seen any strong positive feedback, so I will go with ****'s Racing.

Tuts,

I have heard the same type of bucking story from other people. They said the same, that ****'s Racing cured that problem. That is my main problem as well. My concern was that he is the only suspension guy that is isolating the rebound to one fork and the compression to the other fork. But it seems with so many people being overwhelmingly pleased with the results, I should not be concerned with how he does what he does. I should just enjoy the benefits of his expertise.

Thanks for the feedback. :!:

**** has done six Bergs for us, from 650's to a 400. All are exceptional handling bikes. They truly take whatever is thrown at them.

I wasn't aware of the seperation between fork legs for rebound and compression. This is the way mid-nineties KTM's with 43mm zokes work. **** did my '97 360 and it handles good, but not anything like the Husabergs do.

i know you guys didnt ask and keep in mind that i couldnt say my suspension sucks since im an MX-Tech affiliate, but the suspension on my bike is absolutely the best i have ever ridden on any bike, i probably would not have put up with the usual husaberg quirks for this long if the whole package didnt come together so well. Im a big guy, so stock suspension on anything doesnt work at all. My setup is primarily for the desert but it does very well on anything fast. havent really had it on an MX track yet, but im confident that with a few clicker adjustments it will work awesome. i also have the Enzo racing subtanks and although i revalved it and got the tanks at the same time, I know they help a lot. someday i will adjust the oil height and take them off to make a comparison. I personally thing that the PDS shock is a not so good idea and would rather have linkage, but thats a different debate for another day, but when it comes to making it work, I think MXT has it down. does **** racing manufacture there own PDS needles? how about pistons? im just curious.

BTW, I have heard a few people say they like the novation stuff.

in reality i believe that the both forks have compression and rebound circuits but that they are adjusted using one fork each [i think].
i would go for the max package. you'll be glad you did.

The information shown on the Dicksracing website does look good, I read good things about his work. There are a few guys in my area that use Novation and are quite pleased. The Novation setup is very versatile, apparantly you can adjust from moto to rocky woods with some adjustments (all pre determined with testing of course). Novation has put alot of work into the shock needles.
To me the most important part is having someone local who will do fine tuning for you to get it just right (it may take 2 or 3 tries) if you are willing to take the time to get scientific and truly dial it in.

****'s machines almost all his own parts. I met a couple of his employees at the WORCS race in Colorado 2 weeks ago. They confirmed that he is isolating rebound to one fork and compression to the other. I asked why he is doing that, when other manufacturers tried it then abandonned that set up. They said they don't know why, they only know it works, and it works really well.

Of all the suspension guys out there, it seems that the customers from ****'s say he gets it spot on right from the shop. I haven't heard any negative comments about his work. And I haven't heard that kind of praise about any other suspension shop.

I did try a local guy 4 monthes ago. There was an improvement, but the bike still has a bucking issue, and the local guys can't seem to figure out why. I have tried a lot of clicker adjustments, but I still can't get it to behave the way I know it should.

I think the Novation set up is probably very good. The drawback is the testing and adjustments that are required for varying terrain. I could save a few dollars with the Novation set up, but I really just want it done right with out any further 'testing'.

When I talked to ****'s Racing, I told him I want to be able to use it for WORCS racing and desert racing. WORCS is an m/x track with a 7 mile hare scramble attached to it. So your suspension needs to handle the big doubles as well as the sometimes fast and sometimes slow and technical off road stuff. No time to stop and adjust the clickers half way through each lap.

Last night I packaged my forks and shock to ship to ****'s. I'll let you know what the results are like.

as far as i know he doesnt have employees. maybe now he does since he moved to cali.

I first got Dicked about 6 years ago when I met Darrell Folks and Danny Hammel. I had my honda, and two Kx'S dicked and loved the whole experience. I even made him some boxes to ship forks and shocks in. Great guy and VERY GOOD at the suspension. The only reason I haven't dicked my berg is I am old, slow and broke right now.

D. Folks of Sportsman Cycle in 'Vegas introduced me to **** Wilk in '98 when he was still in Las Vegas. I had him do the full treatment to my new Fe501's front and rear suspension and in 2002 had him go thru them again. They are absolute magic in rocky sections and make the big unexpected hits disappear.

According to UPS, ****'s Racing should have received my forks and shock today. He said they are running two days turn around time, I should have them before Memorial Weekend.

I'm anxiously awaiting. I know right where I'm heading off to ride as soon as I get them back on the bike.
