Anyone ridden both a Husaberg FS650 and an Aprilia SXV550?

Hi Guys,

Interested in a comparison between the two. Power to weight is very similar but from what I understand the 650 has more torque and a bit quicker to 60mph. The Aprilia pulls away from 60+. How about handling? Is there much of a difference?

I am torn between an FS650E with 190 miles on the clock and a new SVX which will cost me an additional $1700. Aprilia dealer is 45mins closer and the SVX's now come with a 12 month warranty but not sure if that is worth $1700.

Cheers.

I have not ridden the SXV but I know a couple of guys that had nothing but trouble and sold them quick for a loss. They are fast but the 650 is fast enough to compete with the SXV. Husaberg maintenance is easy and cheap, I don't think you can say the same thing about the SXV...

I own a SXV and the maintenance is not easy at all. As it's a v-twin and very compact, the engine has to come out to check the shims (shims and buckets are the same as those on the CRF450). You have to be very careful when filling the oil. Any amount over 1250cc that you add will generally appear in the airbox. There have been warrantee issues, most pertaining to coolant in the oil due to the sealing of the cases. This seems to affect mainly bikes that have been raced. The 2008 models have additional cooling cavities that extend further into the Vee.

freind races the first year and loves it. starter motor issues and cooling. not sure what though...

The throttle bodies can fall out out sync pretty easy and it makes them hard to start. There was no time out on the starter motors when they first came out and. If you cranked them for too long the windings burnt out easy. The new maps limit cranking for 6 seconds and then kill the strter for about 5 secs or so.
