Anyone recognize this bike ('02 FE400E)?

Hello - after a long search, I finally found a berg within my budget on ebay & purchased it. Its a 2002 FE400E and I am curious if anyone here previously owned it. The guy I bought it from is in Indiana and owned it less than a year & doesn't know anything about its history. The last time he went to ride it, it apparently was idling in his driveway when it started making some clanking noises. He pulled off the clutch cover & found a broken oil pump and lost interest from there. I have yet to receive the bike - it is shipping this week - but thought I would introduce myself & try and post a photo. I plan on a complete engine tear down & inspection, so I am sure I will have many questions in the future. I have read the Doc many times and figure this would be a good time to make some of the recommended upgrades.

RE: Anyone recognize this bike (

Hello,
Where in Rhode Island are you ? I have the MX version of that same bike. I will have mine torn down shortly, soo if you need any pics or info let me know.
do you race at all ? NETRA or any MX series. I have a bunch of suspension stuff if you need to dial the bike in. Snow storn predicted for Wed. so I will get mine out of shed and into the shop where it is warm before then. My bike has been great and I'm sure yours will be too .Also I do have some of the special tools if you need.
us Berg riders in N.E. are a small bunch 6 I think including you.

Cheers, Ryan

welcome to UHE mogly. get stuck in and tell us what you find when you strip it.

i suppose it couild be your oil pump but i've never heard of that one before....

the red alert and amber alert tell you what you must do in the doc. you're probably well aware that the doc is cewntered about the knowledge i've gained from running the same bike as yours - a 2002 FE400e.

regards

Taffy

The exhaust on this bike has the carbon fibre end cap and round silencer. The 02 fe400e had the more current oval silencer and polished alum end cap.The 02 470 Fc and Fx(650 as well) models did have the exhaust as in the photo.

Wow, that looks like a VERY clean '02 you scored there, congratulations! I'm assuming you got a pretty good deal on her?

I also have a near new 02 Fe400e, 634 km
Hey Husaberger we berg guys in Atlantic Canada are in the north east too!!! :D

Hey guys, thanks for the responses! I also did a search on oil pump failures and didn't find any. I have a feeling that the previous owner damaged it while disassembling under the clutch cover and it wasn't the real reason for the clanking noise. I am hoping that some of those red/amber alerts have been corrected by the original owner, but I guess I'll find out soon. I picked the bike up for $557 on ebay, so I figure its worth putting some $ into the engine.

Husabergler - I am in Charlestown, RI and a member of NETRA, but don't do any racing. I usually only enter the local turkey runs and occasionally get out on my own in Pachaug forest. I've been riding the same bike for the last 20 years, an '84 Husky 250WR, so that should tell you something of my riding abilities (ie SLOW). You've been to any of the new england turkey runs?

Jay

Hey Jay,

I live in North Adams, Massachusetts. North Adams is in the northwest corner of Mass---about 3 1/2 hours from Boston. I am planning on riding some Netra enduros and maybe some hare scrambles this year. Thinking you are slow shouldn't be a reason for not trying out some of the races if it is something you'd like to do. You don't have to go there for the purpose of coming in first. Many people ride the races just to ride new trails and see new places. I will try to be somewhat competitive. But, I don't intend to go beyond my riding capabilities. I work to pay the bills so I can't be much of a risk taker. Anyway, nice to see more 'Bergs around here.

Hey Guys,

Did not mean to leave any one out but the N.E. actually was for New England.
I have raced NETRA events but do more MX/SX races. However any time you guys from New England or the Great North East want to hook up for a race or a ride
just holler. Mark, I plan on being out in Lee this summer not sure of dates yet.
Lastly, riding slow is still faster than pushing a broken bike due to riding beyond ones abillity. That being said lets get together and ride when the weather breaks.

Cheers, Ryan

Hey Ryan,

For sure we will hook up this season. Do you ride ice at all? I rode ice for the first time a week ago. Quite a bit of fun. Would be nice to make team Husaberg in the Netra Enduros or Hare Scrambles. I think I need more practice though---lol.

I just looked at Mapquest. I didn't realize that you are 85 miles from me. Not too bad, lot of land in between.

8O Omg 557 dollars? i'll give you that for the wheels! Good deal there Mog, you should be able to put her together quite reasonably. (note to self: keep an eye on ebay)

That is what I was thinking, jeez that guy single handedly brought all of our resales values down!

You got your self a SWEET deal, $550 into the bike already, even if you had to put 1200-1500 hundred into it to make everything like new and stone cold reliable, you would be SO FAR ahead of the game...

DANG why does nothing like that happen to me! you just won the Dirt Bike LOTO bro!

Hello mark,

Normally ride year round, ie- ice tracks, snow courses normal trails ect... However recovering from knee injury right now doing well with rehab. Will be ready by mid March. I came up a little short trying to quad the double double at Crow Hill MX in Templeton MA. check it out some time.
Yes to hare scrambles, or whatever. Lets try to get some good groups together. Open invitation to all Berg riders. Good practice out my way Actuall NETRA H&H trail crosses my driveway. Do you have AMA race membership ?

AMA---no. Netra---no. But I belong to 3 regional clubs. Been to work partys for trail maintenance. But never ridden in any events. I know what you mean about recovering. I didn't ride my bikes in all of 06. I opened a business and then got arthritis in my left shoulder. And tennis elbow in my right arm. Kinda sucked for a good long time. Plus the 501 kicked back pretty good while I was kick starting it. The bad part about that is I was wearing shoes. Overextended my ankle---felt like my toes touched my shin.

There are some old logging trails behind my house. Getting kinda over grown. Another guy that I met has a Kawasaki KLX 250 and his parents live a few doors down from me. We are going to try to get some riding trails worked back in this spring. Lot of area. However, it is pretty steep.
