Anybody know the spring rates for the forks of the 02Fx470E? The rear is a PDS-7 76-95/260 I will be upgrading soon. My Fx470 front end dives bad when under hard load in the conner's and my suspension tuner feels I needed larger spring's front & back? Front he wants me to go with a 4.8 and in the rear go with a PDS-4 8.5-11.0/250. With my weight, wet gear, ten lbs. of mud, gas, oil, fanny pack & tools I should weigh in around +- 235lbs. Any you fine fellows have a opinion?

my Fe400e has .042's in it apparently and they're spot on for my 200lb's. apparently you have .044's fitted so why they're too soft i don't know. i don't think so....

the '01 had .042's.

44's should be good.

BTw .042's are 5,00 diameter and the .044's are 5,10 diameter wire/coils.
by now you can try dialling the '04 settings straight in. ask him to find these out first before anything else.

hope this helps.

My dealer just mailed me the 02 FX470E spec's I'd attach the Doc. but just can't figure it out how to post it?

02 FX470E Fork Spring "Husaberg part#"

432.505.00.044w 0 5.10

Dia Lenth Spring Weight Spring Wire Dia
43.2mm 505mm 4.4W 5.10mm

Shock Spring
pds7-260 76-95 N/mm

Last weekend I was looking over the spec's for a KTM 450/525 class bikes. They sugested the 4.8 and PDS-4 8.5-11.0/250. for combined weight of rider, gear and bike of my size? So I'll let you know what happens. I'm still open for more debate on this subject!

if you use the spring rate calculator for a KTM, you will be fine for the forks springs, use whatever it says. and for the shock spring simply round down. the Berg has a slightly longer shock travel.

Fork Springs

If you look thru your manual it will tell you how to set up your forks and shock if you find the springs do not sack out or sack to much then you need to replace them with the right springs follow the manual.
The springs are only for the riders weight you should sit in the middle of the seat and bounce up and down making both fork and shock move together if the springs do not fit your weight then it is very hard to make the damping ajustments you need!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
200 lbs. + riders stock 0.42 springs are fine, 150 lbs to 200 lbs. 0.38
Rebound settings 8 to 10 clicks from to + side this is so when you brake for a corner the frount end will stay down so you can turn if it rebounds to fast hiside or climing over the berm make the corner slow.
Compresion setting from 16 to 25 from + side depends on what kind of riding you are doing if you bottom over jumps add some oil max is 120mm of free air space.

Stock rate on the FX is .44 as listed in the manual.

You can see it in the part # you posted.

For your weight, you will need to use .48 springs.

I weight 165 with gear and waterpack, Dick's Racing just put .44 in my FE501e.

Carl weighs 185 and he uses .46, he mentioned to me that really improved his bike.

The bergs have a tendancy to ride 'stink bug'.
Nose dives and butt up in the air.

I can attest to the improvement of going to a stiffer spring.

More spring with less damping = smoother ride.

The .38's Cody mentions are for 2 strokes,
they will be way too light to support a thumper.

....and i thought my suspension was good :( :( :(

my sag from free to standing is 44mm which is a lot more than they recommend.

i'll keep an eye out for a set of .44's or .46's here in the UK. any used ones going?

Sounds like you're trying to compensate for the saggiing front by lowering the rear through excessive rear sag, that's the same thing that I tried when my bike was new. I also did that for my son when he was too small for his CRF. I had considered a new softer rear spring for my 501. But fortunately Dick's Racing convinced me not to do that. Don't get the .44's, from what you posted earlier, you need .46's or even .48's if you are aggressive.

Email Dick's with your info, he'll tell you what rate he would use.
Include your riding style, terrain, skill, weight, etc so he can make an informed recommendation.

Exactly how I felt when I first got my 501. Coming from a DRZ, the Husaberg was/is awesome. But, I had the opportunity to try a KTM with revalved suspension. Then I knew it could be even better! The difference between stock and what I have now is incredible. I rode that friend's KTM again last weekend to compare. We both felt the Husaberg was better handling, more in control, MUCH less harsh even though his KTM was more plush. The Husaberg just swallows everything in the trail and allows you to go so much faster because your body isn't fighting the rocks and you can just focus on your speed and where to aim your front tire. I did not know the suspension would affect the bikes turning response. I thought it would make a small difference, but I was completely underestimating the effect. The bikes turns so much better than stock.

will these fork springs fit mine? $55 isn't bad i don't think?

i weigh about 200-210 pounds before kitting up. the forks drop 44mm from free to standing. this is with the 25mm of spacers in that came from the factory. 5mm of which take up the space and 20mm is preload. some say .42's are fine-others .46-.48?

i'm bloody fast and hairy!

what weight spring do i need?

the FE400e '02 has 4357 forks.

Thanks Taffy: I'm day late and dollar short as usual. I had my 470 re-sprung Monday night. Forks I went with Wp original equipment 4.8's and on the shock I think it's a PDS-4 The rear spring is just a loaner to see if I like it?
Spec's are
Forks 4.4 to 4.8's
Air gap: 130mm next oil change will try 120mm
sag: 40mm
Preload: Stock
Clickers: at 12 & 20 (stock for 02 FX470E)

Shock: went from pds 7 to pds 4
Static sag: 35mm
Race sag: 105mm

cody, splat et al

i called my suspension man up and reminded him of the work done and described the bike and how it handles. he said i should just pack the springs with spacers!

to remind: i have 44mm sag from freewhells to bike standing and 30mm is the maximum recommended. i put in 25mm more preload and the sag is now down from 44mm to 25mm.

a 25mm spacer made 19mm difference. i tried it saturday at a MX track and just went up 4 clicks on the rear rebound. the front end was great and didn't weave etc on nose heavy stuff.

cost me £5 so for once i've saved some money!

Suspension update: I finely had a chance to try out the new spring properly! Put just under a 100 miles on it this last weekend on some very treacherous trails. If any of you ever get to northern Michigan in the USA you have got to try out the Tomohawk trail system. They run a National Enduro there. I rode what they a call the B & C loops the way they had it arrow'ed it came out to just under a 100 miles. Back to the springs. I weigh with gear 230lbs plus a fully mudded bike. The front of my 470 now has 4.8's and the rear has a PDS-4, back to stock setting on clicker. Till I get to know the new spring's better. The front no longer wants to fold under on hard cornering and seldom bottoms out on the long stretches of whoops. I now can obtain the proper race sag on the rear of the bike. And after getting big air it no longer bottoms so badly (Big for me isn’t very big!)
