Another weephole question.

Hi all,

I have done some research on this site and a few others and have done the search and can't really find what I am looking for....

Basically I believe I have discovered the weephole issue and I cannot yet establish whether it is oil or coolant. I believe it looks like coolant as it was quite foamy. I am looking for a way to find out what it is.

Also is this a terminal issue or is it something that berg owners live with. I have looked at the weephole kit and it sounds like a good idea. However I have read that people run there bergs without ever fixing it and others even epoxy the hole closed.

Would love to hear your replies..

HI i have own husaberg 450 06 for 16 month now, and its leak some oil from this tiny hole from day one ,so i think its very common with Husaberg, its not dangerorus !

I had fluid leaking from my first 04 model at one stage, out the weep hole as well, very little used to come out , I just kept an eye on the coolant level and after some time it just stopped leaking. To lazy to fix it.

Regards,

make sure the radiator fluid only just covers the core. Over filling will cause the hot expanded fluid to hunt for an exit. The exit from the cap does not seem to be the first avenue.

Just don't block the hole !!! If you do, coolant pressure can build up and enter the engine. And then ......

I recently replaced my coolant after a service and filled it to the brim. It was spewing out the vent for some time and now that most of the excess is gone( but probably still 10mm over the fins) now I believe it is having a weephole spew...

Does this sound right? I believe the fact that it is foamy points to coolant???

Foamy means its aerated, how would air be getting to whatever fluid it is? Try smelling it, oil and coolant have distinctive smells. If all its doing is leaving a bit of a stain, most would live with it until it puddles.

Both seals, oil and coolant can leak. Most seem to have oil seals leak before the coolant seal. Overfilling the oil can contribute to excess crankcase pressure and weeping here. The OrangeBerg kit will fix it for a while, then the coolant will leak before the oil seal in my experience. The coolant seal can be replaced from outside with care. The hardest part is removing the existing seal without damaging anything. Then protecting the new seal when installing from damage from the shaft can be tricky, and fitting it squarely into the housing. Most recommend removing the clutch cover entirely and doing it by the book.

I got my old seal out using a self tapping screw threaded into a pilot hole that I carefully drilled through the seal. I then Dremelled a small relief in the housing so that when I have to do it again it'll be easier and can be done with a screw driver. Installing the seal was done using a suitable long reach socket as a drift and the shaft protected with a bit of heat shrink tube as per the OrangeBerg kit.

Thanks Steve,

my thought was that it is coolant as it dosen't smell or taste like oil, however there was a slight residue which i thought was odd? My thoughts were it was aerated as it was exiting the weephole under presure and it was a pinky colour which is leading me to coolant as my coolant is red in colour.

It is only a couple of mls and only seems to be happening on warm up. it never drips of the cover onto the frame or ground, maybe i will just keep an eye on this.

It'll be fine John, just drain some coolant so its 10mm over the core and ride the bloody thing.
