Hi to you all!

I will introduce myself shortly. My name is Mark and l'm living in the Netherlands, a saw a few dutchmen allready here @ husaberg.org :D

Riding my 05 450FE I'm pretty happy, it is my first bike. I've driven an old Honda before but that one lasted for I think 7 or 8 hours. That was the moment I've made up my mind and started thinking about buying a real bike.

It was at first the reasonable price of the bike, I saw an 05 but brand new. I started to inform myself about Husaberg and found a lot of negative stories at our forums and my buddies. Nevertheless I bought one 8) Now I'm glad not only the price is good but the bike as well. Only my steer is vibrating and shaking at high speed cornfields.

Now I'm pretty happy, I know it was a good choiche. Maybe a 550 could be a better choiche afterwards, but you got to have goals in your life :wink:

A scotts steering dampner ( ohlins is the same, sort of) will stop the hi speed twitch as will proper suspension setup.

Hoi Mark,

Welcome to the site, it seems like the Dutch are busy to discover real bikes! About your choice; you made a good decision, the 450 is the bike to ride on the small single tracks and it's strong enough to coop with mud and those open corn fields!
About the suspension; I had the same problems, loosen the rear shock (veer voorspanning) a little and the problem will disappear. I also installed other front springs to raise the front but that depends on your weight.

Indeed it is nice that our brand is getting more popular in the Netherlands. This weekend I drove my first dirt ride (off the road ritje) in Ruinen, and saw 2 other Husa's there. I think that I had a lot of dirt in my eyes because when I got home and took a look at the pictures made by www.motofotoservice.com and www.actiefocus.com I saw at least half a dosen other Husa's!

My weight is about 87 KG, I don't know if it's a good idee to set up the suspension myself. Maybe it is better to leave that work to a proffesional, don't you think?
The front springs you've used were stronger?

I didn't manage to be there, but i will be in " de Wijk" next week.
Mine is a 2003 with less steeringhead angle.
I turned it up a little at the rear to make it turn better.
So you can drop it a little at the rear to make it more stable.
But what the hack, just open the throttle and hold on tight!

ok maybe I'll see you this sunday. Me and my mate are riding there as well, my bike has a bleu plastics backend and yellow sticker only at the top of it. My mate is riding a 01 Honda 250 with black plastic. We are both dressed in red.

Did I understand you: losen the back spring a little and turn up the demping a little harder?

Maybe you guys would like some pictures, I made them after a nice ride this weekend.

We had a little rain this week, but during the ride it was dry. The trip was awesome!! About 500 bikers were riding their bikes, the track was a little muddy as you can see 8) One trip was about 42 Km, and we were allowed to drive as many as we wanted :p Most important: I broke nothing :D

no way should you have headshake. although unwinding the rear spring one turn will help, you need to check for worn parts. get a lever into the top and bottom of the shock as the bushes can go at either end.

hold the top and bottom of the tyre/wheel and shake, then: remove the wheels and check for rumbling wheel bearings.

check the headrace bearings for 'notchiness and rumble' also check swingarm needle bearings for wear.

it's almost unheard of for any age of husaberg to shake it's head.

Taffy thanks, next to the dutch friends who are active here, you're not to far away from the Netherlands yourself :wink: You live in the east of the UK?

The vibrating head seems to be solved. I spoke to my husaberg dealer and I was told to let the steering head a little bit down, the effect is that the front shock absorbers rise a little bit (about 1,5 millimeter) It was 5 minutes work but it has a good effect.

Last weekend I let the bike out, and no vibrating occured. I'll keep you posted.

yes i'm just 60 miles (100 k) from harwich/felixstowe and indeed race near woodbridge overlooking the north sea.

remember though that none of this should have been necassary. also check that your rear wheel is tracking straight by sighting with some string down both sides of the tyre wall.

don't be lazy!

I am a bit confused here, Mark, you say you have some head shake issues and your dealer has suggested you lower your forks a little.

My limited understanding of the handling/suspension issue tells me that this would in fact make your problem worse as it would decrease steering angle.
Can some one help with the science here and maybe expand or clarify?

if you drop the forks down through the clamps you have 'kicked out' the front end. this always makes a bike more stable....
