to solder aluminum. Might work on engine cases and rocker covers. Especially for field repairs.

Super Alloy 1 is a solder which melts at 350o (enabling you to make repairs with nearly any heat source including a heat gun, soldering iron, or propane torch), and bonds at 20,000 psi.

Do you think you could fix a stripper more easily this way thav with an insert? Or that you could even melt some of it into the hole, push a thread in and let it cool down? Like you would with J-B Weld, but which does not come out when you torque.

Melts with a heat gun or a solder iron? Sounds like a great product if it performs as described.

I have seen the stuff demo'ed before and it really is amazing. I bought the stuff a few years ago but have not really had a chance to use it.
I'm not really sure it would work for your application Nic.
I bought it with the hopes of repairing radiators and a/c condensers while still in the vehicle.

Well I need to read myself after posting more often, because what the hell did I mean by "fix a stripper"?

You supposedly do not have to make sure the parts are free of oil as the flux displaces it so you could probably solder up a small hole in the case while there is still oil in the bike.

I am thinking that having a rod of this stuff, the flux and a small butane torch in the tool pack could be a life saver on the trail. It will also solder some dissimilar metals together.

I dont think it could produce a strong weld, as you need to melt the parent material. But i think it would handy as a patch up item.

there are various similar products about. i usually have a littel in the shed for emergencies.

the stuff i got is actually off a roll used by welding robots for welding aluminium and some how does actually cause the metal being welded to flow and join at about 390o.

though i think with all these products its ensuring the oxidisation is removed from the surfaces of the material being joined thats important

i have some real good alloy weld that welds at the temperature of a normal hand held blow torch , i watched a demo at a show , this stuff breaks down the genetic make up of alloy and lowers the melting point of alloy in the affected place, it is not solder and it has no flux and it is very very strong and penetrates as weld into the alloy ,including high magnesium alloys which are near impossible to weld using a tig, anyway the guy pulled me out of the group of people watching because i said "i didnt know you could solder alloy" he said its not soldering and promply welded two bits of
thick sheet alloy together , he then gave me two pairs of vice grips and told me to snap across the weld, when i eventualy did this you could see real good penetration of the weld into the alloy!. i have used it on several occaisions ,even used a gas cooker ring to heat and weld , hard to believe but seeing is believing.
