Hey Folks,
This weekend the AMA Supermoto Circus travelled down to sunny (but cold) Nashville, TN for Rd 9 of 10 of the 2006 Championship Series. For this event, the Loire Racing Aero P.A. Husaberg Team was a 3 rider effort with Robert Loire, Mike Bergman, and Colin Horn carrying the flag for the Blue and Yellow. Coming into this round Robert sat in 5th in points with a slim 3pt lead over 2 close rivals, and the team sat in 5th as well about 20 points down on 3rd and 4th. After the racing was over, Robert now has a solid 8 pt lead over his rivals for 5th, and the team has moved into 4th in the standings, just 8 pts out of 3rd! It was a good weekend!!!
From his outside 2nd row starting position, Robert got his standard excellent holeshot, and was able to avoid the first turn carnage heading into the urbancross ramps to come out right around 5th place. From there the battle was on. Robert locked into a nearly race long battle for 4th thru 6th with Factory KTM rider and multi-time South African SM champ Brian Capper and Factory Husqvarna rider Gary Trachy. The 3 riders swapped positions multiple times nearly every lapped with lots of bumping and banging going on. Robert described it as about the most fun he has ever had on a motorcycle! In the end, Robert was able to make a good late braking move on Gary Trachy in the final corner to secure 5th place on the day, while Capper held on to 4th. The 5th is significant in that it not only ties for Robert's best finish of the year, but since Trachy is his closest rival for 5th in the season series, he added some padding going into the final round.
Starting on the 5th row in 18th and 20th respectively, Mike and Colin unfortunately were not able to avoid the first turn incidents. Justin Ross stalled on the first UX ramp right in front of Bergman forcing him to take evassive action off the side, almost landing on the pit wall. Colin tried the outside route and ended up getting stuck between a sliding Micky Dymond and some hay bales. After all was settled they rounded the second corner in 21st and 22nd place. Both started picking through the field slowly, with Mike having more success taking over 14th place late in the race, while Colin managed to work up to a final finish of 17th.
The course at Nashville was probably one of the most fun of the year, if maybe not the most technical. The team was really able to use the power of the Husaberg 650's, going flat out in 6th on both the front and back straights. Top speeds were estimated at around 105-110 mph.
We met a lot of nice people down in Tennessee, including a few Husaberg faithful. We are also getting more and more interest from other riders seeing how good and reliable our bikes have been all season.
Now we are on to the final round at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA on Nov 4-5. We will once again have a 3 rider effort with Olivier Annequin coming back over to join Robert and Mike. Colin will not be making the trip out to CA for the final round. If any of you are going to be in the area, you should definetely try to make it to this event. It is going to be a great show, and we can use all the support we can get as Robert tries to clinch 5th place, and the team tries to push into the final podium position.
Best Regards,
