Alternative to Magura clutch fluid?

I need to flush and refill my clutch line.

Is there any alternative to the Magura fluid?

Yeah I did a search and followed other people's advices and the clutch now works again.

I looked for some ATF but it seems it's all synthetic and did not feel too comfortable using it.

I refilled the Magura bottle and gave the remaining to wifey, that way I can get a massage when I come home from a long ride (well, one can only hope!)

Nic,

I flushed and filled my clutch with baby oil about 6 or 7 months ago and it has worked just fine. Others have said that the baby oil is a little heavier weight than the Magura stuff but I haven't noticed it at all. Maybe that would show up more in a colder climate but with the heat here in AZ the baby oil works fine. Another plus is that the baby oil is only about $1.50 or less and you can flush and fill your clutch 4 or 5 times where the Magura oil is about $5 for about 4oz. And as Kelsow mentioned, it gives your bike a fresh powdery smell to boot :wink:

Regards,

I put ATF in my 2001 501 clutch system not too long after I bought in march of 2001, and have never had a problem with it.

Magura Blood as it is known can be swapped out with;
1. 5wt or lower fork oil.
2. Hydraulic floor jack oil (Penrite do a 500ml container)

We have used AT fluid in the past but have found that one of the additives that is designed to "swell" the transmission "O"Rings to make them seal better ruins the seals in the Master Cylinder - beware on this one.

I have used Valvoline ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) with not a problem at all, it is even the same cherry red colour as Magura blood
