So we are driving back from the awsome BOSS run in eastern oregon, heading west on HWY 26. i was following 4 cars at a pretty good distance whena all hell broke loose. they all droped anchor and swerved to avoid the DRUNK a$$ in our lane. so i hammer the brakes and the trailer begins to slide out to the edge of the raod.

now this would normally not be a problem except for the 45 degree 25-30 foot drop off.....and my trailer is a 33foot 10k lb 5ht wheel....... so the trailer drags us off the raod and down the embankment. i crank the wheel hard right and hammer the throttle. my freind said they saw the underside of the truck and trialer????!!!! we didn't roll but cam as close to rolling as you can without actually going over.

i was supper pissed at the guy who ran us off the raod, i screamed alot and had a hard time not getting in a fight with him. althoughi suppose it wouldn't have been much of a fight considering he was so drunk he could barely get out of his car?????!!!!!WTF who gets that $#!! faced in two in the afternoon and decieds it a good idea to drive the highway???. he was arrested and taken to jail, he will be there untill his cort date.

we were soooo lucky to no t have rolled, everyone on scene couldn't believe we didn't go over, even the cops.
Moral of story DON"T DRINK AND DRIVE A$$ H@!E!

No kidding man... I don't understand your comparison. I rode with Ned, and he never jeopardized anyone's life. He fell asleep twice, and asked where he was once, but during that time, he was operating between the lines.

(Ned, please don't beat me.)

thanks,

Senior be who senior-like acts (I hope my grammer is ok).

If you pack a dirt bike to go shake some dust on a semi-regular basis, you are not a senior in my book, Ned.

While on the freeway, once, I started to pass a convoy of three cars driven by elders (80+ some from what I saw). As soon as I passed the second car, the old dude saw me and, scared that he would lose contact with the leading car, decided to speed up and close the gate on me, as I just had the time to get back into the lane before a pickup truck arrived in the opposite direction.

I had the reflex to hit the brakes and swerve into the middle lane, which was wild grass, stones and all. I barely managed to avoid the other vehicle, who of course did not even slow down.

I am now more scared of seniors at the wheel than of drunk drivers. But you cannot arrest and jail someone for being too old to drive, unfortunately.

ya this guy wasn't young either, probably 50's (sorry to all the guys 50 +, your not old unless you feel it right?)

still no excuse though, old, senial, whatever- if you are a danger to other people STAY OFF THE ROAD.

this is going to totaly screw me for the 24 hour race in two weeks :( . i afraid to tow the trailer with it going under soo much twisting and screwing up the hitch up like that.

TB,

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, but, glad for your excellent luck and skill.

What happed to the hitch? How about the axles on the trailer?

thanks!

the two rails that hols the hitch onto the bed are both bent up on the driver side. the front one is bent up 3/4 of an inch and the rear is bent up a 1/4. one of the pins that hold the pivoting assymbly in is reaaly bent but onther than that evrything looks ok. im not going to tow with it untill it gets checked out.

the exels appear ok but one of the shock mounts on the traier was ripped off.

And the HUSABERG was just fine, bent one of the hand guars away but not bad.

Sounds like you will need to have all the hitch mounting plates checked, welds etc and replace all the bolts in the assembly. You might be surprised what you find when you start unbolting the assembly that attaches to the rails, and the main mounting bolts that attach the rail to the truck.. I bet some of those bolts are bent.

How about the hitch on the trailer itself?? If you have an extended pin box it also might have gotten twisted in the crash. I don't mean to be a dark cloud here, just don't want to hear about you having a failure on the down the road a ways.

The best part is the berg survived virtually unscathed!!!

No, no worries,i will for shure check everything. the plates are bent and will need to be replaced. i'm going to check the frame brackets this weekend. i looked at the pin and inside the Pin box and everthing look all well, no distorted metal or broken welds.

my hope is that there is not too much damage, there never was a real impact, being i never hit anything or came to an abrupt stop. i will most likely have the trialer inspected by the local trialer shop befor i tow it agian, just to be safe. better safe than sorry!!!

thanks for the concern, i will NEVER turn down a good sugestion.
