I thought I'd take an chance to plug a very deserving bloke and his business, te guys name is Terry Merritt, he runs Redline Exhausts at Melrose Park, South Australia ( 08 ) 8277 0311, or http://www.redline-exhausts.com.au after recently buying a used Akrapovic slip on from Wildman, I set out to give it a bit of a scrub up and get it onto my FE550, but as per normal I got carried away and started looking into getting it straightened up properly.
first though I looked at getting replacement parts - an outer silencer tube 'skin' and / or a new end cone cap, only to find out that you CAN NOT buy replacement parts for Akras made for KTM's and Husabergs, as they are individual units manufactured under license... oh well, on to the next stop.
Next to see if it is feasible to get some new Ti sheet or tube to re-skin the silencer - Nup! pretty difficult stuff to get as it turns out (at least in SA)
Thats when I stumbled upon Terry's details on the web, a modest website, but plenty of promise!!
Terry has been into bikes his whole life, and is an accomplished metalworker and welder, good news was that he is very proud of the work he does and has taken on small and large jobs, from model RC speedboat expansion chambers to full systems for road bikes.
I dropped my Akra's skin and end cone in to him on a Monday, he took a quick look and was pretty happy that he could give it a new lease on life - 4 days later it is waiting at the post office all done, and superbly too. very cheap cost (compared to buying a new system - which was the Akra importers suggestion in a round about way.
Anyway, given that these exhausts seemingly have no repair kits or spares (maybe excepting the Carbon fibre clamps), this guys work was exceptional, he can do any parts of the system, headers cans and obviously does a few expansion chambers for 2 dingers.
