Air Filter Position

For the pre 09 models .
My 2005 Husaberg Repair manual clearly shows the large end of the Air Filter facing towards the rear
of the bike.
Wondering why so many of us are installing it with the small end facing to the rear.

I went to look again and it in my owners manual. It show the filter installed both ways in fact.
On one page one way and next page the other way.
I used to install it small end to the rear until I noticed the book showing the other way.
I have installed it large end to the rear for a few years now because from the way I see the seat covering
the area it looks like it pulls in more air this way.
 
Yes ,I noticed that some years ago too.
I keep the big end to the rear for the same reason, gives a more even draw of air over the filter I would say, it could potentially dust up the front of the filter quickly in one spot if the big end was to the front maybe, or create to much draw of air from another place.

Also notice the plastic oil screen on the sump plug, the mesh is also tapered on that i think.
