Hello Again
In sunny England and particularly where I live, it is getting harder and harder to find places to go out and have a practice or fun ride.
The biggest issue is the noise. Noise / complaints / police ... you know the drill.
I do recall one of the regulars had developed his own full exhaust and even managed to get the sound levels down to something like 80 decibels.
However, to my knowledge there is not an after market silencer available.

I've heard about the new (twin silencer) 250 4-strokes that are at something like 74 decibels output, and wonder if there is anything to make my big lion sound like a little mouse....
I don't mind sacrificing some of the power - there's plenty to spare.

Can anybody advise please

Akro is the way to go.

Our esteemed Frydaddy (Lee Fryberger) told me that the factory Akro slipon tested at 90Db when they tested it at the ISDE a couple of weeks ago. That's with the plug in.

Cheers,

Brett Saunders

This is true and as one person who happened to be on the business end of the Akro commented, it Barks!!!

Of course hp increase with slipon is trivial, but 4 horsies is claimed from the full system, sold for the 650 model. Again, jetting, altitude and state of tune will affect performance of both std and modified motors.

LeoV claims 2.4 HP with a slip on......or is he referring to a condom... I'm goin Akro...you want quiet keep the stock pipe..... really hard to beat IMHO :D

I'm pretty confident that my akra, with, the plug, is a lot less noisy than the stock muffler.

A friend of mine got picked of a race, using his stock exhaust, due to noise. 103dB...

A couple of hoses wrapped around the outside at the end of the muffler can be very useful. Secure them with what we call slangklämmor, hehe. It seems that much noise comes from vibrations in the body of the muffler.
See attached picture to get what I mean (not the best picture).

Here we go for a nice slangklämmor:

In German it's a Schlauchschelle.... :D
What most of you call a hose clamp.
Ok, this is really off topic!

Quiter pipe

Hmm interesting.
Jocke_D that hose on the end suggests maybe the answer is a longer stock tailpiece?

Thanks a lot :hathat49:
Now my colleagues are thinking "why the heck is he laying on the floor laughing his stomach out"...

Actually, that is a slangklämma with a singular -a at the end. The -or in slangklämmor tells us that they are plural. I thought about calling them hose clamps at first but wasn't sure it was right. Too bad.

By the way Maddel, the pic is from the first practise session at the new track we discussed earlier. It looks like we're going to have a test drive of the 06 models in oktober at our very own track :D

'Jubilee Clip' in my part of the world.

noisy fecker

thought you,ed sold the berg ady not seen you on uhe for a while , first see if the oe can needs repacking i dont reckon the standard pipe is to bad :) are you doing driffield on sunday ?
steve

the MX pipe is no noisier than the enduro/trail pipe. you can rarely beat OEM parts so i'd say "stick with the factory pipe!".

I don't know if it will fit. My 02 fx470 pipe tested out @ 83 decibels when it was new. Now that I've rode it for two seasons, its 90.3 @ sound check. The 470's silencer is a lot longer that the new 450's.

Getting a wee bit off track here, I think.
I don't feel my bike is particularly louder than it was from when I bought it new, but I'm looking for an after market silencer, to bolt on when out practicing, or riding where maybe i shouldn't be.
Less noise from me will avoid busy bodies calling the boys in blue, to get me kicked off from wherever i'm riding.

Steve; How ya doin bud ? Still got the bike, just not having any problems with it at the moment. Not riding but probably marshalling Driffield.
You still getting on with that Rekluse clutch ?

That's what I tried to do? You have a 03 501 and I have a 02 470 that's very quite. I've seen complete 470 pipes on E bay a couple of times. "My bike is stealth"

Excuse the expression - But would your tailpiece be the same length as mine. (Yours is no doubt black ... it's stealth in it !)

Seriously. Do you reckon I would need the full pipe, or would the tailpiece make a noticable difference 83 to 90 db would be good.

Steve, hopefully see ya Sunday - You'll be the one with motorised zimmer. 8)

No punned intended :p My silencer is as least 6" longer than my sons 03 fe400 & and it's bigger around than his. Id get the whole pipe if you could find a good used one. But I think you could get away with just the silencer and the pipe in front of it?
